Calibrate it and see if it works. I've had mine for years and it's not a problem at all.
Cheers,
just bought a hanna from c328 and upon opening found that the last calibration was in Jan 2005...that seems kinda dodgy because it means the pen was probably sitting in the shop untouched for the last 2 years.
should i be worrying about the quality of the pen (ie bring back and try to change/get refund) or is this age alright and the pen is still in brand new condition? feeling kinda cheated because it's almost as if i'm buying a 2nd hand pen at 1st hand prices.

Calibrate it and see if it works. I've had mine for years and it's not a problem at all.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
ok benny i'll give it a shot...hopefully it not just works but works for a few more years too!![]()

illumnae, when i brought mine months ago in C328, the aunt advice me to re-calibrated before use the initial. I found it to deviated on by 0.1~0.2 after the calibration.
If you don't have a ph calibration liquid on hand, try using mineral water that has a labelled (known) ph value. i use that and it works.
After use, place the front/tip of the pen tester in the running tap water and don't wipe it totally dry (Keep the tip in moist condition) before you cap the holder.
hi yappeyap, you mean your ph pen from c328 was wrong by 0.1-0.2 even after calibration even new from the shop? didn't get what you meant =)

I meant during calibration from NEW (initial used), it approx 0.1~0.2 out but after calibration it's working fine. Btw i'm sure the aunt told me that it need to be re-calibrated before the initial used.
The ph pen will also deviate after months if i'm not wrong, and it needs re-calibration.
ok thanks =) as long as the pen works despite its age and doesn't die on me because of its age i'm cool with recalibrations =) my worry was just that the lifespan of a pen was say 3 years and because it was left on the shelf for 2.5 years, it will die on me in .5 year...as in completely not work not just require calibration

If you use it frequently, it is advisable to calibrate on monthly basis. I have some Hanna buffer solution with me & don't mind helping you to calibrate, if you require help.

thanks for your offer uklau =) polyart gave me some wrong info on a plant they sold me, so i brought it back and traded in for ph 7.0 calibration liquid and a prefilter sponge, so i'm good on calibration =)
after some troubleshooting with genes on msn last night, i finally got it to work properly and it seems to tally with my liquid test kit so all's good... just hope it lasts despite the age!

I got to know from a chemist friend who claims that age is never a proble with Hanna pH meter/pen. They even have technician keep dropping the meter but working fine (for pH pen, never drop it) You can always change the probe if it is faulty (not sure if this is applicable to your model).
Cheers,
