Yes, I have SAEs, Otos and Malayan Shrimps. It'll be an experiment to see if a juvenile Arowana will go after them. Pet Safari's adult arowana ignores the SAEs and Flying foxes in its tank... I'm hoping to train my Arowana to ignore them by not feeding it with live food. I'm considering putting him in a holding tank initially.

Benetay, I know what you mean... so far the Vals are slow... dunno why. May replace with C. natans. The Sags are not too bad, they dun grow very dense so quite easy to spot the runaway runners. The E. quads are getting very dense already. Tank will evolve along the way.

    Vinz,

Soree... me no comment.. only praise..... Great job!!

Actually got comments: Don't really know your schedule, but the vals, and sagi are quite a handful. For me, it did compliment my tank well till it was too much work uprooting it. The runners are quite fast and judging by the number of plants you inserted in your 6 footer, you should be able to feel the impact pretty soon. Of course if you don't mind the work, I say leave it in..... in does look great.

Overall, I really like your arrangment. Seems that you have put great effort into the planning of your setup. Can't wait to see tha aro in the tank. Maybe I'll get the chance when I drop by your place.
    Cheers!!

actually, I got suggestion. Why don't you try planting your background too? You know, a moss or fern wall, I think it'll give it a more natural look. Then with a red dragon against the dark background.... Oooooo... If you have ever been to sam yick and see their windelov backdrop, you'll get the idea. But it sure takes a long time.

By the way Vinz, your blxya is growing well in my tank. Finally I get to see these plants grow well. Thanks!! Now is just trying to figure out how to propogate.

It was supposed to be a Val background... but they are not growing. I was acutually concerned that they might get too tall! I going to give them a few more weeks before replacing them with Crinium Natans. Maybe I should just do it, just to save me the trouble of trimming Val shoots.

I was toying with the idea of an APP wall... if the dragon gives me high nitrates, the APP should thereotically do well. Though APP is too light coloured to give a good contrast with the existing plants.

Anyway... thats a lot of background to cover!!! ^$$$^

Vincent, I must say u have a very nicely layout 6 feet planted tank. But for a full grown arowana, its going to be a big problem. The width of your tank is only 2 feet, that is not enough. According to aro expert, it should be minimum 2.5 feet. Thats why aro tanks are usually customed made. A 2 feet width coupled with plants growing at both sides is not going to give much free space for your big fish to turn.
I hope I did not dampen your enthusiasm.

I plan to evolve the layout of the plants as the Aro grows. Right now the tall plants are to give the fish a sense of security. As it grows and gets use to the ppl and movement in the house, the tall plants will give way to shorter plants.

Vinz, same idea as me. Next time, maybe I'll just grow short to mid-level plants when it grows big.

Anyhow, I think a 2' tank is big enough for the aro for quite a while to come. If you go Qianhu and look at the largest and oldest, think it's still not 2'.

Meanwhile, check out this malaysian fisherman who caught a wild 7kg green aro

Someday, when some one has a large enough house, perhaps play around with the idea of a 6 foot square base tank. Ooooo... Gonna be a mean feat. As for now, I guess arrowana in ponds are the ones who have it best.

Amano should put a few Arowanas in his new 10m (is it 10m, I forget) tank. They'll be beautiful...

I remember there was a time when Van Kleef Aquarium was overflowing with Arowanas... I think it was the time the fish made it to the CITES list and lots of illegal Aros were consficated or something like that.
