I think generally for any 2ft setup, they only come with 1 HQI bulb and of course with or without T5s. Solite has the setup that you want at a very good price. I would have bought from them if not for the cheap price that dymax booth at aquarama has offered me for their 3ft 2 x 150W HQI 2 x T5 display set. They were selling every single set that was used for the marine setup too and all of them are only as old as the aquarama'07. But truthfully from what I have seen at aquarama and the internet, I think Solite system is the most well built and designed at a very very competitive price!

Solite has a new model called Type1 which is not listed on their web. Type 1 has external Eballast and the light housing is only 10" wide and 2.75" tall! So Sleek! But it doesn't comes with T5s, but has setup from 1ft to 6ft.

Type3 will be what you are looking for. It has external magnetic ballast, T5s, 1W blue led moonlight and it is only 2.5" tall and 5" wider than type1. But they only comes with 250W HQI for all their setup, which ranges from 2 ft to 6ft.

Dymax's top of the line Black galaxy system has built in timers for both T5 and HQI. I think they has moonlight LED too. I'm not too sure whether any of the Dymax has 2ft setups but you can give them a call at 67527577

there are also Atman, Azoo, Delighting, Arcadia, Boyu, Hailea, and couple more others that I couldn't recall at the moment.

    Thanks for info.
I was also looking at Solite but it seems they do not have 2ft for Type 3...
Actually I wanted to buy a set at Aquarama also but nearly all the sets I asked about were sold. Sets from Hailea and Boyu look very nice.

    Wow, thx for the info.
I'll go check around to see who sells the Solite 2ft Type 3.

And yeah, the European brands are ridiculous... there was a set at DElighting booth that looked nice and it cost $800 for a 2ft Worst part is, some of them already shifted their production lines to China and still charging that kind of prices

    Valice, you can try contact David Puah from Span Aquarium, they are the distributors for the product;

    Tel: 6348 5930
    Email: [email protected]
    www.aqua.span.com.sg

They don't do retail but i did approach them once to check on the availability of the Solite Type 3. As far as i know currently there isn't any 150W around in the market, those sets that is still in stock are the 250W ones, for marine.

But i guess if the number are good (orders), they certainly will be bring in more. You can contact both Greyfox & StanChung, check if they are still interested, maybe you can organise a group buy.

After using the Solite Type 3 for almost 1/2 year, i'm certain its the best with the amount of money paid.

Contact me if you need the price for 4ft & 5ft (Forum Policy ) or the catalogue of the full range.

I am actually looking to use them on a 3ft.
    250W is abit too much. I 150W + 78W of T5 is already an overdrive for 3ft!

How's the reflectors in the MH?

Now I am considering between Type 3 and Giesemann . Got GSS discount at some shops.

Oh...3ft, then got to called the SpanAquarium and ask!

Reflectors for the Solite MH are those ordinary ones, thought of changing it to the Lumenarc diamond reflector but the even the smallest model: Steath Lumenarc Small (L13"x B13" H5.75") couldn't fit in. That shows how slim the Solite is haaaa! But the reflector are not bad too.

Though Giesemann is quality german product, but there's no T5 and that can be difficult to work with, got to shift up the whole unit up and down also stand the risk of been burnt by the hot casing if you don't have other lights to work with during maintanences.

GSS you reminded me.....Shopping time haaaa!

Gisesmann do have the ones of MH+T5 combo. But they are only 2ft in length. Compared to the the Solite, which might be 3ft in length.

In that case, you need to juggle with the factors taking all into consideration, overall cost, availability, ascethic looks before getting.
For your infor. i'm using a 4ft lightset over a 5ft tanks..... Damm difficult to juggle .

Any link of that Gisesmann lightset you mentioned, want to join the drooling process too, if you don't mind .

    Hey Vincent,

I've spoken to David from SPAN and he mentioned that Solite Type 3 no longer produces that model with 150w pendants. Instead all fixtures are only 250w fixtures.

I have been looking high & low for the Type 3 @ 150W but to no avail, only choice is to look for fellow members who's selling them.

You meant juggling with the cost and aesthetics?
Yah. Actually I am looking at functionality and also long term overall cost. Like bulb changes every 6 months for T5 can be very siong.

He did? When I went to Aquarama I personally asked him, he said no more 150W pendants + T5HO combinations.

Grrrr... must take the pamphlet and smack him!

Looking at the difference between the Solite and the Giesemann, I got a feeling it all comes down to the reflectors for the MH.

As with the comparisons of Solite vs Dymax/Magnum where the price difference was again hinged on the former having individual reflectors and the latter having only a single reflector.

Edit: Oh... also, Solite comes with a built-in fan and ballast for the MH is external or internal?

Heee...paiseh! Yup its aesthetics not ascethic? Giesemann are nice but isn't it a lot more expensive then Solite?

As for lighting T5, fire your MH first for the intial few hrs then followed by your T5 to increase the light intensity. In this case you sort of extend you T5 tubes life.

True, its relatively important to be a better reflector, thats why those diamond reflector are price so high. but come to think of that, Solite wasn't that bad either (not because i'm using them) but one of my friend are using a 3ft Type 3 150W Solite for his marine tank and corals were booming...

And yes it comes with a internal exhaust fan to keep the lightset cool at all time (activates when the MH is turn on). The ballast (German made) is located outside the casing for obverse reason so that they could built the lightset slim and light in weight. You can also store the "hot" ballast somewhere else.

How high did you hang the lights?

Aaron: I think you can split this thread up already. Totally off tangent from the original topic.

    Ah..Solite Type 3, there's a difference.

The one that yappeyap has now is the Type3 with 2 x 150W pendants + T5HO. Span carries the exact same model but instead of 2 x 150W its 250W. (This model comes with the fans + external ballast)

They have another Solite Type 3, now these fellas come with 2 x 150W or 2 x 250W without the T5HOs and without the exhaust fans but with external ballast.

Confirmed from both AquaMarin & Span, the distributor or rather in this case according to them, the manufacturer stopped making the 2 x 150W Solite Type 3 (with the fans).
