I think the reactor is more effective as there are less bubbles escaping from the unit. For the diffusor, some bubbles escape to the surface, though its probably just a small amount of loss.

On a side note, I find the constant streams of bubbles from the diffusor unnatural and the pin-point-sized bubbles floating around the tank irritating.

ya.. a reactor is more effective in dissolving the C02 into the water.. whereas the diffusser does perform the same function by pushing the C02 into smaller bubbles so that it easy to dissolve.. another type of diffusser is a cyclinder round type that got a tube that go round and round till the bottom.. it act the same by pushing the C02 from below to the top and while this happen... the bubble get smaller and smaller on the way up the tube before it been release to the water .. this process actually dissolving the C02 into the water as well

so it up to you... personally think a diffusser look nice with the bubble thing, but the reactor is more effective (but size also bigger..so for smaller tank is no so nice)

external reactor.. u mean using the canister filter as a reactor.. I saw someone did this before... I think PetSafari one of the plant tank is using this methode.. cos' I did not get to see any bubble or internal reactor (maybe I cock-eye)

The external reactor is a seperate device, installed inline with the output hose. Nature sells them.

Generally reactors are known to be more efficient than diffusers.

Of course there are good quality diffusers which performs better than a reactor... this is just a quality issue.

I prefer to use a diffuser as it looks nicer. I do agree that it looks unatural, but I prefer it rather than a bulky looking reactor.
    Cheers!!

Sherchoo, think he got the external reactor. Me also using one from Nature.

Reactor is much more effective.I use 1 for my 3 feet since Jun 02. No complain. My past experience with diffusers was they tends to expel small bubbles in the beginning, which was beautiful, and later, bubbles became bigger. Worse, a lot of pores will be choked (I do not know why, probably algae or dirt). Reactor does not need HIGH PRESSURE as diffuser.
