    Hi all,

    =)
Would like to ask if it is common for the "connectors" area of the filter tubing eg. rainbar to be leaking (drop by drop).. my friend tried to use those white tape (for water pipes one) and it still does leak a bit especially when he first on the filter..After a few days, there will be no more leak. Is that normal?

    thanks,
    tltan

    hi tltan

no its not very common for the piping to leak....did your friend use new hoses or the old ones. If new hose, there could be a possibility that if hot water was used to soften the edges, after awhile, it will contract and stop the leak. Old hoses...may also be possible that it may have harden with time.

    Hi David,

thanks for ur always quick and helpful reply.

The area i mean is between the hook (plastic) from the filter output hose and the bent tube to the rainbar (plastic). In between the hook and the l-shaped bent plastic tube to connect to the rainbar..
this two area always leak from the connectors.
Hope u get what i am trying to say..
    =)
    thanks anyway,
    tltan

    hi tltan

do you mean that the leakage is where the rubber hose is joining the two ends of the outlet pipe? if yes turn off your filter and try pushing the hose in further. It may be best to check if the diameter of the outlet piple is still round and not flatten or out of shape....

am i on the right track to your question?

    Yes, David,

that is where it is leaking
it is also leaking at the joints between the outlet pipe and the "turn" to right angle for the rainbar to be horizontally placed...(this is where it really leaks)

Anyway, for planted tanks, the rainbar can be placed into the water so that surface agitation not that great is it...will there still be oxygen if the rainbar is placed under water then? Pardon me for my ignorance hor..

Anyway, he is using an Astro brand cannister which was recommended by friend's father (cum shopkeeper)..so hehe bo bian also..think the connections quite lousy
not like eheim one...dont know whether can replace with eheim pipe but that will cost another sum of money lah..

    Thanks a lot,
    tltan

    the piping is definitely faulty
the eheim one has absolutely no leakage
see if you can persuade him to switch to an eheim
in the meantime try silicone on the outside when it's not leaking

as regards the rainbar, we're not concerned with the oxygen mostly, it's the loss of co2
if there isn't agitation, co2 loss shouldn't be a problem

    thanks DEA and David,

Think he will try to tighten the tubes..hope it works..if not maybe he might really have to silicon it...any idea if LFS sells such connectors between the tubes?

    Cheers,
    tltan
