Hi all,
My friend bought me a fish, I think it is a catfish. Could you please help me identify?
I put it in my new planted aquarium, would it eat my plants? Does it eat algae?
Thanks!!!!

Thanks a lot Quixotic. I have made the changes. Can my pictures be seen now, please?

Ah, much better. Yes, a catfish originating from Africa, commonly known in the trade as upside down catfish. Scientific name is Synodontis spp., not sure on the actual species. Unfortunately, it is not an algae eater.
Thank you! Better get some algae eaters then since that one will not cut it.

I don't know if this is an isolated case, but I had some of these previously and they chewed on Anubias.

That is a young Synodontis eupterus.
HH

Apparently, this has happened to someone else before.

This sounds like bad news... think I better give the fish back to my friend or else it might spell disaster for my aquarium.
Thanks to all who contributed!![]()
