Hi, I have noticed on several occassions some of my malawis 'vibrating', is this fighting behavior or perhaps breeding behaviour?

Its more likely their breeding behavior. When the male wants to breed, he will vibrate his body and erect his fins at the female.

Thanks, I guessed it when two of them actually started breeding yesterday - got a female holding now...this is actually her second batch, I'm raising 9 little malawi's at the moment, but unfortunataly missed the whole breeding event previously and also did not know who daddy was. Luckily, 2nd time around I was able to see how it all happens. Just don't know where I'm going to keep the new arrivals - will need to get an extra "fry rearing' tank! :-)
