    hi guys,

I'm using the above filter for my 3ft planted tank
I'm currently lowering the output flow by using a clip
to constrict the rubber tubing. is this advisable?
if not how do I reduce the flow without damaging my filter?

I believe that you are using a canister filer right?

most of the time, I would not suggest to use any clip or valve control for the canister filer, as this seem to in-directly affect the motor and might damage or shorten the lifespan

to reduce the flow, most ppl do is face the outlet toward the glass or alt use a T-tube to diver flow to 2 outlets etc

Reducing flow with your method is quite ok... Many of us are practising the similar method by means of half closing the valves. It does have an effect on the filter's life span but quite insignificant.

    Juz my opinion
    Cheers!!
