Help: Eheim 2232: Adjustable flow rate?

The Eheim 2232 I newly installed in the 7gallon tank seems to be stirring up the glosso. The output is too strong. I tuned down both ball valves (in & out) equally, is this okay? Will this damage the functioning of the canister in long term?

Depends on where you control the flow. If from the intake tube, there might be too little water going into the filter causing some malfunction. If you control it from the output tube, the pressure in the cannister might build up, might cause leakings...

This is what I could think about the cons.

But in general, I don't think there should be any problem, especially when you control through both intake and output, there's a balance of pressure and release. Long term damage to the filter is not a concern to me.

I think Should control the valve at output only.

Don't worry about pressure build up causing leak. In my opinion the pressure will not increase even though you shut the output complently. The filter design is not to pump water into the canister but instead it pump water out of the canister. Thus the presure only affected by gravity, water flow down from the fish tank.

Hi oni XL,

I have the same filter as you, I used on 2 footer and find it not stronge enough. I have reused into my nano tank now. You may need to re-design your water outlet into the tank. I used a rainbar with large holes and submeger 10cm below water, faced 45 deg upward.

Is your a 1 ft square tank? If still find it too stronge just control the valves. To me its the same as when you used for long period and the pipe start to get block. But of course, we want it to run at the most efficient way.

Since we are taking about 2213 here. May I ask how you guys prime this filter?

Or is it so ggod that we only need to fill the cannister with water and it will flow, just like the Eden501?

Bro, wrong model leh! We talking about Eheim 2232 eco external filter!
Eheim 2213 I also have, I fill up the cannister first, then top up further from the tube by remove the U pipe.

It seems to be working better now. The flow is gentler and no problem with the canister, so adjusting the flow is possible though tuning up/down the outflow valve only. Thanks everyone!
