It is due to the temperature of the original light tube. If I am not wrong, it is 8000K lights of the original Magnum tube. So with 6500K, it is more yellow.

I recently went to NA for a change of the PL tube for my magnum 55W light, the lady change it to an Osram 55W with 6500k specifications. I brought it back home, I notice immediately that the light was warmer compared to my other lighting which also happens to be the same magnum 55w PL light. It could be my imagination, because I have alot of red plants and red soil in the tank, but I like to confirm again with you all.

Does that mean I should change the bulb? Would it affect the colouring of the plants' leaves? I always had the assumption it should be 10000k, would that be correct?
6500k looks considerably more yellowish than 8000k. Shouldn't have much difference with plant growth. I like 8000k more as it's more white than yellow.
I'm back!

Thanks, I will keep the light then, because I am trying to get a reddish aquascape.

so 8000k is more whitish than 6500K?

They are all white. The higher the Kelvin (K) value, the more the light leans from the yellowish/greenish towards the blue end of the visible spectrum.
When mounted on its own, 6500K is a very bright sunlight white. But mounted above a fish tank, with a slightly greenish water tint and almost exclusively greenish/brown interior (plants, wood), a fish tank will reflect green parts of the light much more than blue parts. So the more the light color leans towards the blue end, the more blue will be reflected by the interior, the more "whiteish" the light will look.
6500K has served me well, it gives the tank a very warm impression. I've tried 10000K but found it too straining on the eye -- but YMMV. Tubes with more than 10000K are intended for reef tanks, not for freshwater, and will give a respective "cold" look.
