Sorry but I have a question on external filters.

Will it work if the external filter is place above the fish tank?

I have a fibre koi pond which is at ground level. Thinking of getting a Eheim 2213 or similar model for the pond but wonder whether it will be a problem or not.

I doubt it'll work, or at least not very well. The manuals all indicate that the top of filter must be below the water level of the tank/pond. For the 2 i have, they have to be at least 10 cm lower. I had one that was sitting on the same level as the tank, constantly had problems priming it.

Make a visit to some of the nurseries/pond scaping companies. A few setup DIY filters using pumps and sell the parts too. One you can visit is called The Nature Company (I think) on Joan rd, behind the Thomson Rd nurseries. Its expensive, but you can go look-see look-see.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I think they require some siphoning actions to get started. Never tried. Just by reasoning. Maybe can drop a e-mail to ehiem.

    will not work

coz the water goes into the canister via siphon and gravity action. The water is not pumped into the canister. It is pumped out. Thats the basic design of pressurised canisters.

there are some pond filters you see which can be placed above tank level
    those kind are non-pressurised.
it works the opposite as canisters. Water is pumped in and then falls back into the tank by gravity

Thanks guys for all the comments.

I thought so too thats why I asked the question. Thankfully I did not bid for a Eheim filter...........Guess now have to think of some overhead top filter solution with a powerhead/pump submersed in the pond.
