I have just came back from my brother-in-law house. He has just started with CRS but in a 4 feet tank with only mosses. Using a OHF and only fan. Temperature was at 26.5 degree. The best thing is the CRS breed.

Now, I have a 2 feet tank and Java ferns and some hair grass. Using fan and a cannister. Temperature is also 26.5 degree.

So the question is why mine does not breed

Maybe all 5 of your CRS are males.

That was what I thought but after checking it out. based on the size, I am sure there are at least 2 female as they are fatter..

DO they really need mosses to breed

Was thinking whether the number of CRS in a 2 feet play a part.

Anyone know whether there is a minimum qty in a 2 feet tank? Meaning that if there is too few, the chances of mating is lower?

    Yo Taygu,

Don't think the tank size of 2 ft is causing the problem. However I believe the temperature of the water does play a part in this as well.

For most will be keeping them in water around 25deg.

    Paul Lee

they do need hiding places to breed, but temperature is the most crucial for breeding..

    Taygu CRS Attempt Lastest Update

    Hi all,

After some many months of trying....rescaping...bothering expert here with questions....and finally, I made a drastic change. From a 2 feet to a small little nano tank of about 23 cm x 18 cm x 26 cm and changing it from ADA Africana to ADA Amazonian..

Guess what.. I have 4 shrimplet in the tank...

I have attached the picture of the tank and a picture of the shrimplets to share my joy with you..

Nope, just a fan, if you look at the tank picture, it is at the top left of the picture. Temperature is about 26 to 28 degree..

Ah Gu, go pick up some Ketapang leaves and drop inside

Office tank CRS everyday eat the Ketapang leave we drop inside. Finish 2 big leave liao. But so far no breed

Have Ketapang but never feed them with it. Feeding them with mix of Algae waffer, flake and Tetra Complete..

Isn't it weird? They got a big house and they won't breed. Squeeze them into a smaller place and they breed. Maybe they never meet each other previously - place is too big.
