Besides the above 2 species, I believe Corydoras pygmaeus is also around 3 cm. Corydoras cochui is slightly bigger, but is almost impossible to find on our shores. The other 3 species have been available locally.
Cheers,
What is the smallest Corydoras sell in Singapore fish shop? and which LFS have it?
I search on the net and found that samllest Corydoras are C. hastatus and C. habrosus. What is the common name for these two? any singapore LFS sell it?

I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
Thanks Benny. Any idea about the common name used locally?
Most of the shops just call them pygmy corys.
However, some shops more familiar with Chinese names will call Corydoras hastatus as 月光鼠, which loosely translates to "Moonlight Rat", Corydoras habrosus as 娃娃鼠, which loosely translates to "Doll Rat"

so cory was known as 'rat' fish in chinese![]()
Some LFS call them 迷你鼠 (mini mouse).
ck
Come to think about it, haven't seen C. pygmaeus for quite awhile.

i remember one of the smallest & rarest which i use to keep - Corydoras gracillis. Its length is around 2-3cm too.

Corydoras gracillis is actually about 1 cm larger than the 3 species. I had a batch from the Sam Yick shipment too! Those were the days for cory hunting!!

does it mean Cory is not popular anymore, thus hard to get certain species?![]()
Not really, some shops do stock in different types of cories from time to time.
TB Ben's, C328, Y618 and now, NKS..

If I am not mistaken, Corydoras are the best sellers in Singapore? I think Benny is just saying that he no longer goes around all the LFS looking for them anymore.
Some LFS only carry the commonly available ones, while some carry rare (and more expensive) ones which comes in infrequent shipments (could be once a year only). Not many would go for the rare and more expensive ones, so if you want them, you probably need to hunt around.
There are actually hundreds of different Corydoras species, 150 valid species, not counting undescribed and C numbers!
Yup yup! Just to add on, Corydoras is the largest Genus of catfish (Order Siluriformes).

Got myself 10 C. pygmaeus last weekend and boy are they cute!
Mine are about 2 cm and will eat anything. They are like full sized Corys in every way: they like to school, constantly scour the bottom of the tank for food, are very active, take gulps of air from the surface of the tank occasionally, "blink" their eyes, easy to feed, etc. The only difference is that these guys are TINY!
Thanks for the recommendations guys.![]()
Mine are very timid. Everytime I approach the tank, all of them retreat to the back. Also recently got them. About 15 of them.
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
Mine does not eat frozen blood worm, strange, I feed them with hikary algae wafer instead. They are schooling well especial after weekly cleaning
Mine also timid, hide when ever I approach. Funn thing is they alway follow my otos around.
Same here!!! They always harass my 3 OTOs that i have in my tank!
Kinda cute to see all of them gang up on the slow oto!
Frozen worms subjective as they only pick the smaller strands to nibble, ignoring the bigger ones.Other then shrimp food,i do alternate feedings of daphnia which they enjoy alot! Though my tank gets abit cloudy?
Read that they actually like colder waters, somewhere around 25Deg celcius.
Any truth in that? My ambient temperature without fan would be around 27-28deg celcius.Wonder if they'd do ok in here.
A couple of degrees difference should be okay, but at cooler temperatures, there is more dissolved oxygen, which would certainly benefit them.
Some of the questions are applicable to Corydoras on the whole, not just to the small Corydoras. So I have split them here,

Same here too. Always follow my zebra oto. Think they feel safer if following a big brother. Haha.
