US authorities, for various reasons, take a very light view of genetic modification of organisms, be it for food or other purposes.
Most other countries have differing views, that to various degrees invoke the precautionary principle, which is to say, 'the risk and uncertain effects of such organisms, which contain totally alien genes, getting into natural environments is far too high and outweighs whatever supposed benefits they offer.'
This is just the ecological objection. My own view from the aesthetic angle, though you are free to disagree, is that wild forms of fish are much nicer (and usually cheaper too) and more vibrant than probably any man-made strains.
