    Hi Guys,

I came across this thread from another forum and thought would like to share this piece of information with you.

About two years ago, I had a hydra problem and tried red ramshorn snails and endler's livebearers but had no success in eradication of the hydra. I eventually followed up on some research on the web and obtained some Panacur (Fenbendazole) powder from my local veterinarian. It is a dewormer commonly used for deworming dogs and other four footed animals. You don't need much Panacur to solve a hydra problem in a small tank. I found that all it takes is a small pinch of powder sprinkled on top of the water and the hydra will be gone in about a day.
Of course I couldn't find my little packet of Panacur for my recent infestation, so a few days ago, I went down to the vet again and obtained a few more teaspoons of powder. I sprinkled a small amount and sure enough, they were gone in a day.

FYI. In my current situation, I have a few red cherry shrimp in a 15 gallon tank with a few snails and of course fry (Melanotaenia praecox and Corydoras similis) and had no noticeable adverse affects to any organisms except the hydra.

So what do you people think of his idea? Is it feasible?

    Cheers!

Yes, I should think so according to what is written here. I would consider the information on this website to be quite credible.

However, with invertebrates, it pays to be careful of what you are adding to your tank.

Hydras are predators, not parasites or bacterias. So there are no concerns of disease from them, but they can prey on fries and shrimplets.

Some food for thought on the remedies. Remember to do your own homework and detailed research before adopting any mentioned methods.

I get rid of Hydra by lowering the PH of my tank. It won't hurt the shrimps and after 3mths the Hydra are gone. Hope this help.

What is the dose that you add to your tank? Do you follow the instruction given inside or just pour the amount that is equal to your tank?
