looks very nice, and ought to be some kind of Caridina spp. since Neocaridina is not native to southeast Asia. However, as in all small shrimps, it is close to impossible confirm the species unless examined and dissected under microscope, by an expert.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

flashout, read my reply. malayan shrimp is merely a trade/common name and actually the scientists aren't even sure what it is that we call malayan shrimp.

even with the 6-8 species of Caridina in the Singapore Central Catchment, most of them cannot be identified by visual only.

actually i have also caught these shrimps before.should be the same species.but i caught them in a river in Ipoh, Perak.they are so abundant in the river.
just had to comb the weeds at the bank with a big net.caught some brownish eels that could change shades too.haha.
so i think they are just 'malayan shrimps'.lol

There are at least several dozen if not more Caridinia (and related genera) shrimp found in Malaysia and Singapore, so labelling them as "Malayan shrimp" is probably not too accurate. I should add that I find some of these naturally-coloured mere "Malayan shrimp" highly attractive, even compared to gaudy cultivated shrimp strains....

So how ah? What am I suppose to called them? Still need to label them oh... hehehe.

Just want to get some info about the shrimp. Well, I put them together with my neon tetra in my planted tank. All are doing fine, they rather small in size and does not look agresive.

if you are going to label scientifically then it must be conservative, when in doubt do not label with latin. just put in small text "shrimps from xxx longkang".
