    hi guys,

I am quite fed up with some of the lfs for conning my money with those sub-standard CO2 top up using pressure equalisation technique. Eventhough they said they are not doing it, I know they did because the top up only last for 2-3 months. There are no leaks in my system and I am doing 1bps.

Anyone know of a reliable lfs/gas supplier which does compressor top up for CO2? Something like how they top up those SCUBA diving tanks? Really appreciate if you can give me the contact. Thanks

i think some chemical factories do the service too. some of the welding companies too. SOXAL at Tuas does the service for quite a low price. [] thats what i heard lah.

2~3 months at 1bps is really substandard for 2l co2 tanks
however, are you using the small tanks?
mine is tank to tank topup, used to be >1k psi after topping up, and could last me 4~5 months at 7~8bps
now that i've switched to an external reactor, it should be even longer

    ECTan,
This place (Sealico) that you mentioned, does it do compressor top up CO2? What are the charges? How long do I have to leave my tank there?

    DEA,
I dont know the volume of my CO2 cylinder but it is about a foot from neck to base. Should be a 2 liter. What is an external reactor? For CO2?

You bring down your cylinder in the morning, and collect it the next day.
Sometimes can be done within 1 day.

What I normally do is bring down the cylinder early, about 8+ am on my way to work. By evening time, 6+pm , I should be able to collect.

The shop normally consolidate all the cylinders, come from hobbyists, Petmart, & some LFSs before sending them to a gas factory for top up.

    Charges ;
S$15 for cylinders up to 5 litres
    $30 for 5 litres upwards.

    Your cylinder is first 'chilled'
Then liquid CO2 is pumped in.

My 3.4 l lasts me at least 4 months at 3-4 bps.

    ZeroCool,

Leakage could be at the joint. In that case, you might not have to change the whole regulator.

the external reactor is for co2
actually, imo it doesn't matter if it's tank to tank or compressor to tank
i get better mileage from bioplast than from petmart

SOXAL does it on the same working day (4hours) for $7.65/- I've used my 5litre tank for 10 months and its still more than half full.

    Cheers!

Anyone knows the address of Soxal at Jurong ? Can't find it in the yellow pages.

  14. #14
    Hi,

You cannot search for SOXAL, you have to search for Singapore Carbon Dioxide Co. Pte Ltd. The main Offie is 16 Jalan Buroh, Singapore 619475, tel: 62653788. Where you top o the CO2 is 22 Kling Road. If you are taking bus, take 249 or 251 from Boon Lay interchange.

    Hope this helps!

A colleague in Hong Kong who is into planted tank told me he goes to fire extinguisher company to top up his CO2 tank as it is much cheaper. Don't ask me if there is a diff in industrial CO2 for putting out fire and those used to support plants

Talking about the fire extinguisher, any one thinking of changing the control valve of the used extinguisher and covert it to co2 tank
    Thank you.
