    Hi,

I'm a newbie in planted tanks. I need to get those lightings with 2 long ones or 4 shorter bulbs. No time to DIY lighting.

I prefer the 4 tubes cos it might save some money to replace shorter tubes and I dun have to worry if one tube is out.
    Regards,
    Brigitte

dawn: it is very rare for the light tube to go out, so economically it doesn't make much diff with 2 or 4 bulbs, and its ok to leave your lights off for a day to go hunt for a replacement bulb anyway. for a 2ft tank, I recc either 36W or 72W by using either 1 36W PL or 2X 36W PL tubes. if you don't have time to DIY, you can buy it off the shelfs like from nature aquarium. I think you must decide what kind of plants you want to keep now and in the future then buy the correct amt of lighting FIRST, cheaper like that then to buy min light now then realise later you want to keep more light intensive plants then need to upgrade lights.

im currently using 2X36W PL + 20W for my 2ft... it works wonders! even my ricca is bubbling.. so i reckon 2X36W is more than enough for a 2FT... all my plants are bubbling like nobody`s business!

    Hi,

where did you buy the lighting, wat brand n how much? Budget abit constraint this month. Can't wait until next month cos I need to start my planted tank soon. was thinking of planting riccia and xmass moss as the foreground and some swords as the background. Might be including some more plants.
    Regards,
    Brigitte

    hi bro,
i bought my 2X36 from nature aquarium @ $110.. its actually $100 but i changed the brand of the PL tubes so added $5 more per tube.. as for the 20W i used my old lighting except i changed the tube only... i suggest u spend abit more on lights cause from what i see i think light plays a very important role man.. cause when i never add co2 the plants still bubbles!! maybe its a good idea to invest on lights.. by the way i got a 2.5FT one cause that day nature dont have a 2FT with e-blaast(dunno how to spell) samme price as a 2FT one... cause everything is the same as 2 ft except its a bit longer.. and the tubes inside can be adjusted to fit a 2FT.. i recommend a 2.5Ft la.. in case wanna upgrade tank or what.. cause same price lor... and a 2.5FT only casing abit long but not ugly and tubes can be adjusted to position and work like a 2FT light!
i plan to grow xmas moss on background and a ricca grass patch.. as for plants.. im not too sure what i wanna grow.. gonna make a trip down to teo`s soon to see the different types hope this helps

Wow ... I think you have the brightest PL/FL light for a 2 ft. Amano is about 4x20w = 80w and that's a lot already.
