This is by far the smallest of my tanks - 18 cm. I think I'll do a jar next.... just thinking.

    Anyway it's a very tiny 18 x 12 x 15 (L x B x H) cm, barely filling about 3 litres.

I've got it as a temporary home for my betta.

Now I've put in some small Java ferns and assorted rocks.

Are there any other suggestions for small plants and layout?

Do note that I can remove some of the java ferns and relocate them.

I intend for this to be a low tech tank, but I may consider getting a fan.

    Here's another shot...

for such a small tank.. the java fern is too large.. try another plant with smaller leaves.

What's that? Is it commonly sold in aquarium shops? Roughly how much?

its a smaller variant of java with textured leaves
its quite a nice looking plant to me

i don't think its commonly sold in shops... only see it once evry now and then
try y618...saw some there 3 weeks back
if they don;t have it in stock can order from them
    their supplier has it

costs a high single digit sum for a small pot/bunch
don;t expect to get one big bunch like normal java

Hi Sunfire, another plant called Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite' http://www.tropica.com/default.asp is also suitable for your nano tank.

    some excess moss

It looks like this now...I wrapped 3 stones with moss and put them there. It'll take at least a month to grow out.

There are one to two "flowers" of HC sprouting below, I put them there too.

The tank has no fauna yet, I haven't thought of what to put in.

    Temp: 27.5
    Fan 24 hrs
Fert - Aquatilizer 1 drop weekly + Seachem Excel 1 drop every other day

Moss don't need that much CO2...besides Seachem Excel would do.
The moss I wrapped is a mixture of spiky moss and Taiwan moss.

Anyway I've got lots of time. Will update.

For a small tank, you can get away with a quarter cap per week or less, but you definitely need to dose within a week. You can get the 2L bottle at NA, that will save alot of your cost.

yeah look good but unfortunately i failed with it 3 times already
melts, blackens and dies for no good reason

some people also same experience as me
but others just leave it there like any other fern and it grows

i still have not figured it out

    4 mths later

4 mths later, the moss has grown out to nice trianglar fronds. I bought some cherry shrimps at the store in Rivervale mall. Some stray strands of hairgrass too. Not very nice looking but rather maintenance free.
