So far i can only capture my female perfectly as my male keeps on hiding.. They are still young i think.. Have been pumping them with lots of food too.

btw, what do all the apisto keepers here feed their apistos? especially those who paid a premium for those nicer specimens.

some members here swear by ADA AP1/2 for their apistos, but my personal opinion is that it's too expensive for a small added benefit. if i remember correctly, ADA food has the same nutritional value as most other foods on the market, with its only added benefit being that it doesn't rot if uneaten. to me, this isn't worth paying the premium for as if you don't overfeed, you won't have rotting food =)
another recommended food and more affordable is tetra pro colour. i've only just started using this myself so i can't comment on how good it is but again, its nutritional value doesn't vary much from other commercial dried foods.
tetrabits complete is a tried and tested fish food for all tropical fish including discus (which are much more finicky feeders than apistos) but again, nutritional value is similar. this food is reputed to contain higher amounts of beta-carotene which naturally enhances red colouration in fish, so if you have red fish you might want to give it a shot.
at the end of the day, i think it boils down to personal choice and budget. just about any dried food in the market from any brand suitable for cichlids would be good for your fish. their nutritional values don't vary much. i've even heard of someone using discus specific flakes and the apistos thrive on them =)
the food i feed my apistos are: tetrabits complete, tetra pro colour, frozen/live brine shrimp and decapsulated brine shrimp eggs. works well and my apistos feed on all the abovementioned food greedily =)

What's decapsulated brine shrimp eggs? BBS?
im currently feeding them tetrabits, bloodworms, cyclopeeze and spirulina enhanced food.
Curious to see if they would eat mysis shrimps as i have tons of it since i'm keeping a reef tank as well.

haha of course their bellies are bursting forth! this spunky little pair finished an enitre cube of bloodworms in just 40mins! power! for food, i feed my apistos OSI shrimp pellets and hikari micro waffers as staple, frozen/dried cyclopeeze and bloodworms as occasional treats. time to step up on the cyclopeeze!!

hahaa oops.. now i think they are getting tired of bloodworms.. i'll try to step up more on pellets so that they will get the protein needed to grow faster.

Ok guys, the female is chasing the male all over the shop of which previously i've only seen the male trying to "get" her. The female keeps hiding in the cave and keep fanning a particular area with her back fins. Has she laid eggs because i can't see them? Her ventrals are super black and so is her body (black markings everywhere with yellow body). Is there anyway that I can get my male out? I can't even find him now for fear of him dying tho.

congrats it sure sounds like you have a spawn =) when mine spawned i netted the male out and kept him in one of those netting type breeder enclosures in the same tank. worked well for me.
My male keeps hiding all the way at the back of the tank under heavy plants shelter so if i would to get him out, that'll mean i'll have to remove some plants with DW. Bad idea?

Here's a pic of my male.. Finally managed to get him out of the WW3 inside my tank.. He looked totally helpless when the female whacked him.

just discovered that my female has started hearding cattles today as well. how did you manage to net out your male? several attempts of doing that has greatly stressed the pair and i fear for the tank's new additions! as such, i've decided to leave the male inside for the time being, since both of them have zero aggression towards each other, except when the male insists that he should be the one occupying her cave. any advice anyone as to how to improve in the method of netting out the male without too much disturbance?
