    Hello!

I'm not trying to start a nationalist uprising in aquaticquotient (REALLY!) but I just wanna know is there anyone in here that is from my kumpung AKA Malaysia, especially those who are from JB... Just wanna know you guys. I'm just a newbie here, and would love to know where you guys actually stay around and which fish shops you actually frequent to get your fishy fix!

I will start with myself. I stay in Johor Jaya, in Ros Merah (next to Taman Molek) and I used to frequent the shop in Carrefour, the shops in Taman Permas and places in between. But recently I found the best one among them in Gunung Emas (before Ulu Tiram). So what about you guys?

There are a few members who are from JB, including myself. Been living here in Singapore for more than a decade already. Thankful that the aquaria scene here is so much more thriving than in JB.

Anyway, JB is just a stone's throw away from Singapore. So it can be really easy to just pop by to get anything that is unavaialble in JB.

What is available in the LFS at Gunung Emas? More on livestock, plants or equipments?

    Hi,
I'm from Malaysia also. Specifically, I'm from Penang but been living in Singapore for more than a decade too. I used to go to Johor Jaya until my uncle moved house.

I think there are quite a few in this forum.

Yes I have to admit that I wish that I stay in Singapore as well, the fish keeping hobby is much more exciting and alive. That is another reason I frequent this forum :P

For the past two years, I have been looking for fishshops that carry exotic fishes and plants, and was sorely disappointed... Then I found Desmond's fish shop in Carrefour which carried quite a selection of exotic fishes and plants. But recently he is very pre-occupied with his new branches in the Carrefours in KL so the shop here is very nelgected. But I had finally found one that is good!

It is known as New Oasis Tropical Fish Aquarium. Apparently it had been opened for decades, and now the owner's 23 years old son is taking over the shop. Concidently he is the agent for ADA in JB (whom I got my Amazonia from) and his shop carried a lot of weird fishes, including my favourite: panda cories!!! That shop is actually in two shopfronts and now he has another two more shopfronts further up that row of shops selling arowanas and ADA stuff. So I have finally found a shop that catered to all my needs. Also he is supposely starting a local club for planted tank enthusiasts. Yes, yes I sound like I'm advertising but I am excited about the new shop I found. Do visit if you want to check out the place. You can mention my name if you want. I know the towkay's son liao..

In fact I might take some photos of the shop and directions soon and post it here FYI. if I have the time...

    Hi Thomas,

That would be nice and I'm sure a lot of members would appreciate the virtual tour and direction guide. Looking forward to it.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I'm Malaysian and a newcomer to the fish hobby (since Dec 2005). Been here in Singapore since 1993. I get a lot of supplies from my hometown Muar; I have also checked out many LFS in Malacca. I think Singapore is a haven for aquarists, the accessibility of all the LFS and even the fish farms, and a wonderful range also, And a nice thriving community in forums with lots of exchange of ideas. And plenty of trading/exchange etc etc.

When I was in Kaohsiung two months back, I went searching for aquariums. The one that I found was lousy. That seems to be the general experience for Malaysia also; although the new shops are starting to get a lot better.

Can Malaysian bros here share some of their fav aquarium shops in places like KL and JB? And also include some road directions? I recently found out there is a discus breeder in my hometown which I will make time to visit when I next go back.

Bro thomaspkc, please give me some road directions for this excellent New Oasis Tropical Fish Aquarium, would like to check it out. Thanks.

It's hard to explain to you where exactly it is unless you know JB rather well. There isn't any online maps that refer to that place. Nevertheless, I will tell you where it is generally:

If you are able to follow the Sri Tebrau highway (or expressway, whichever you call it) you will see Carrefour on your left. But still follow the way up without turning. For the next 10-15mins, you will be passing Bakawali, Anggerik, Desa Jaya and Desa Cemerlang in that order on your right. After that you have to start a lookout on your left for Gunung Emas sign, which is just right before Ulu Tiram. The moment you see the sign itself on the left, turn in to the first road to the left. You will be able to see the fish shop even before you see the slip road. If you reach there successfully, I congratulate you on your difficult quest.

I couldn't show you guys the virtual tour of the shop because the owner's son is still in the process of getting the shop in order. When he got his renovations and preparations done I will show you all the place and the directions there.

(Unless someone can help me get a better way to show the way.. )
    Thomas
