Both are the same, depending on what scape you want to create.

In my limited experience, bog wood stinks during the long soaking process, but the outcome is great.

Driftwood will get soft over time, bog wood seemed to be able to last longer.

    Thanks for your comments!

I agree that Driftwood will get soft after soaking in water for some time. I do have some DW in my current tank. The coners might just chip off when I accidently hit it. I have not tried Bog wood before but from the structure of it... it certainly looks much more stronger then DW.

I am trying to rescape my tank and thinking of getting bog wood which I think has a lighter tone color. This makes a perfect contrast in the tank between the bog wood and plants

Actually it depend, I got bog wood which also turn soft after a week in the water. Especially those thin branch sections. On the other hand, I also have driftwood which stay solid even after soak for a year.

This driftwood is very solid, it broke my electric saw when I try to cut it. It took me an hour to manually cut it. But again it maybe because my electric saw was design to cut plywood not solid wood.

Anyway in my opinion, just focus on your scape and select the appropriate wood.

Yeah! Thanks for sharing this piece of information. This is certainly useful to me. I think I will get bog wood with nice branches as I will be like to tie mosses and nana on it as part of my rescape plan. Furthermore, I already have DW in my current tank and I will like to add in something lighter in color compare to the DW.

I shall go for some 'wood' shopping later today

    Interesting...

Does it affect the health of your fishes??

I guess it should be fine if your fishes survive!

By the way, you probably don't want to mix bogdoow and driftwood in the same scape. In my opinion it will look funny but once again it may because I do not have good sense of art

did you soak it with hot water or at least spray it with hot water. Never happen to mee before. I always soak with hot water as well as H2O2. I'm a bit paranoid on this snail and worm thing.

I have to agree with you somehow when I think about it... but still I really like the color and shape of bog wood and I am going to try it out... hope I can have some art sense to craft out something nice

    My Bog wood shopping...

Went around different places today from Pasir Ris farms > Yishun > NA > Seaview to shop for a suitable bog wood

Yeah! I found one I feel is nice with branches (for me to tie mosses and mini nana) and small enough for my 1.5 feeter

At least I didn't waste my trips travelling around and found nothing

My bog wood is floating... I am soaking it in water now and hopefully I can start my rescaping next weekend.

based on your pics, if i did not mis-recognise the type of bogwood i think it is. soaking alone won't sink it
does it come with some tag in korean wording?

if it is, make sure you weigh it down with a heavy rock or something
and boil the thing, or at least boil water to pour into the pail and soak it if its too big to boil
the thing will leach tannin, previously i had to soak it in boiling water daily for 2 weeks before i got rid of (almost) all the tannin

and scrub the thing cause after boiling a few times it will release some kind of slime

    Thanks for your valuable input
This bog wood does come with a tag with an alien language to me... I assume it is Korean

Boiling it will be really tough unless I want to get nag at
I guess I will have to go with soaking it with boiling water to get rid of the slime. I shall monitor the condition of this bog wood and it looks like my rescape plan will have to be at least 2 weeks later.

Yeah a question... does boiling it 'ripe' the wood and make it more darker in color as compare to one that is purely soaked??

    Hi,

Good to know you found the perfect piece for yourself.

Boiling does not change the color, and the folks are right about the release of slime, and just to add, it stinks, so be mentally prepared.
