Anyone knows where I can get those 1L mini pressurized cylinder? I've seen one at NA but its rather costly. Can anyone tell me a gauge of the price i'm expecting to pay for it?

    Thanks in advance.

you can find it at almost any most good lfs like na, c328
i confirm aquastar yishun is selling
but if you are looking for cheaper alternatives to the one at NA, i doubt you will find it
price-wise you can take NA's price as a gauge, won't differ by much from there
you'll be better off looking for a 2nd hand one

Most of the mini CO2 cylinders are aluminum and hence the higher price tag. The steel ones are cheaper, but don't not really come in 1L sizes anymore. I had the impression that JBL used to have them.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

With the steep price tag, it has really made me think twice before committing to it since my tank is only a 1ft cube. Do you think I still need a co2 cylinder for better plant growth or just stick to Seachem Excel?

Why don't you DIY CO2 since it is only for a 1ft cube tank? DIY-ing is pretty simple

But Seachem Excel does work as well... but still it is not a replacement for CO2 and won't be as effective as CO2

i thought of diy also but then it would be hard to control the bps and its very important since i don't want an overdose of co2 into my tank which is pretty much easily achievable in a small tank.

I understand your concerns but I think you will just have to control the amount of yeast.

I DIY-ed for my 1.5 feeter... I have about 1bps for my CO2. I am starting to use Seachem Excel as well with the DIY CO2.
So far nothing die because of overdose of CO2. So far so good and my plants are growing as well. Half the day I do not on my lighting but just depends of the daylight.

I use a small 500ml bottle with half cup of sugar and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of yeast. The problem is that I need to do it every week but it only takes me like 10mins and so it is still fine to me.

Maybe you can get a 2L CO2 tank... not too big. I am also quite tempting to get one as well.

How much water do you pour in then? For DIY co2, co2 diffusers don't work with them right?

I pour about less than 3/4 full of warm water (but more than half) of the 500ml bottle size. This allows space for the sugar... adding in the sugar will make the bottle 3/4 full.

I used those normal CO2 diffuser (something like a airstone diffuser) in my tank. It works fine to me.

I am using those with a glass cylinder + air stone difusser for my CO2. I don't think this can be used for air pump... the air stone is finer and at the rate of air pump, the glass cylinder will crack if input is not equal to output. Like an explosion! Boom

Hmm something like ADA those type of co2 diffuser? i thought that requires some pressure in order for the gas to escape from the tiny diffuser holes?

You got a pic of it? Thanks.

I am using this type of difusser... something like that... mine is a cheap TW brand but serve the purpose

Yes it need some pressure to push the CO2 out of this difusser. It can be done if your DIY bottle is done correctly. I managed to achieve this

It is not too hard to achieve that... I guess

I think 2 key points you have to take note.

    1. Make sure you have the air tube secured to the bottle cap by silicon glue (Both inside and outside) so that there will be no air leak. Close the bottle cap tightly after mixing.

    2. Leave about 3 fingers height of air space inside the bottle after you have put in the sugar. The smaller air pocket will mean lesser CO2 to create air pressure to push the CO2 out of the bottle through the tube at a faster rate. With this... you will have sufficient pressure to push the CO2 out of the difusser.

You can try it out... it is really not hard at all... I did it at first attempt

    Good luck!

Thanks. Shall go home and try. By the way, what did you use to poke a hole through the cap?
