The bird & sea turtle islands of Borneo

There are too many small islands in Borneo are home for sea birds & egg laying site for sea turtle.

July 29, 2007. It was another abnormal raining day in the mid of dry season. It rained for whole morning!!! During this outing to see the birds & turtle island, everything was wet including my camera!!!

Due to the poor lighting, all the photos are not properly captured.

The turtle islands of Borneo:





The bird island:





The bird island is very small. There are so many Terns (bird) nesting on this island. Beside bird, we found a lot of locusts. The Tern is not interested to eat the locust, except fish.

Before that, we saw a Irrawaddy Dolphin (Orcaella brevirostris)swimming near the fishing boat. When that fisherman throw away the small fish, the dolphin will come to eat it. Too bad I failed to capture the image of the dolphin.

The water here is almost crystal clear.

The rocks near the beach. I have to carry an umbrella to take this shot & you can see the lighting is very dim.

Pacific swallow (Hirundo tahitica). It is resting on the beach. As it's a wet day, it doesn't like to fly. I am standing less than 30cm away from the bird!

Before leaving the bird island, we need to swim back to the boat because the boat can not stay too close to the rocky shore. And we have to watch out for the sea urchin under the water. There are a lot of sea urchins near the bird island!!!





When we returned to the jetty near the place where we parked our car, we saw some people are busy to auction the fish caught from the fishing competition.





Ivy & Godela are standing next to the largest fish caught in this fishing competition. It was later sold to someone for RM300.00 !!!

Sigh.... and I suppose this is just another weekend for you Michael. What a world of difference from us urbanites here in Singapore.

However, it looks like a great trip and thanks for sharing the photos with us. The first and the last picture are my favorite.
