Perhaps nana golden will bring some color to the tank.

    Any other suggestion? Thanks

Hi, I'm wondering what causes my java fern windelov turning black/dark brown? It started to turn yellow, followed by dark brown from the root to the tip of the leaves. The rhizome looks healthy (green in color). All other plants are doing very well.

Previously, i had quite a huge bunch of Amazon frogbit floating on top of the fern, nana & bolbitis. All are going well, except for the fern.

Could it be due to not enough lights? Thanks.
    Cheers,
    U.K.Lau

Cut away every single black part. Else it'll spread.
Happened to my submersed java fern too.

I bought it from C328 almost 3 months ago. Only started to turn black about 4 weeks back.

Sounds like it's a disease instead of nutrient deficiencies. Scary .

Never pay attention to the plant as it is know as hardy . Now, turned out to be the other way round.

I would say that it the emerse leaf start to rot. Somehow fern rot very slow as well compared to other plants wich rot within a week. It happen to mine as well after 2 months. As limchongyu said, cut them off. Did you see it happen on young leaf? Mine only happen to old/emerse leaf

You are right. It only happens to old leaves. Newly grown leaves are healthy.

Thanks for helping out, Chong Yu & Robert .

Re: Low tech with Excel dosing

    Hi folks,

Some updates before I tear down this tank.

After stopping Excel for a few months, I noticed that the plants are not as lush as before.

    Here is the updated shot.

Going to decommission this tank soon to create a bigger & safer environment for my little girl. This is one of my favorite tanks due to almost zero maintenance.

In fact, I have another 1 feet cube tank, which is zero maintenance. Only water change once in like 3-4 months time & dosing K2SO4 once in a while, if I remember. The tank is full of guppies & few platies. I am amazed with how hardy these fishes are. Tons of it in the tank without water change for months (only top up)!

Again, this is going to be decommission soon for the same reason).

    Cheers,
    U.K.Lau

Wah.... no more tank for Ben?

Maybe later on you will switch to bigger apt and then get an even bigger tank

*ps : even bigger tank is quite child proof. I grew up with many huge tanks around during my childhood.
