they just make the most of everything that comes along their way
When will there be 25 letters in the alphabets?
Maybe it is pink color like sakura instead of red![]()
I've heard that Sakura belongs to those deep red type of cherry shrimps![]()

I was under the impression that the redness in cherries comes from the environment. If the environment is suitable, they'll turn more red? Isn't that true?
Do you mean sakura looks like these?
I am no expert in shrimps but have a handful of cherry in a low maintenance tank. I agree with you that the redness in cherries is relative to the environment. Given the water condition they are happy with, my cherries, sakura or non-sakura or whatever you like to call it, are as red as the ones shown in your picture![]()

A . M o m e n t . o f . T r a n q u i l i t y...
i have compared the normal cherry shrimps to the new sakura cherry in y618.
i persornally feel that the sakura is having a more pinkish red compared to our normal red cherry.
and also, the cherry in y618 looks pale and little bits of red. while the sakura cherry looks very stable and very pinkish red in colour.
to me its all based on water condition also
agree with zenscape
give a pale cherry (or pale fish) a good living condition and the colors will brighten up
i don't really compare coloring at lfs as usually conditions at the lfs tanks are rarely great
the color you see in the lfs and what you later get after you buy and give them a nice home in your well-conditioned tank can be a very big difference
I personal agreed that water condition is very important to shrimp and the redness will show once in good water condition but I myself had brought 5 pcs sakura from AMK lfs to try out and have notice that 3 pcs out of 5 pcs is in dark red near to purple in colour and 2 pcs in bright orange (All are Female)and I sure there is different between this two kind of cherry shrimp.
Normally female Cherry shrimp look more red than male...some of my female cherry also super red in the chiller tank.
Maybe the LFS just split them out and anyhow name it to attrack more buyer. or maybe it is mix genetic with other shrimp too.
Hi all,
For your information, the cherries shown in the picture was bought from Y618 - the normal kind. It is really transparent when I bought it and it turns this color after being in the tank for a few days. As for Sakura, I have not tried it myself. If it is of different color (like purple or orange) then it may be worth while investing but if it is just more red, then to me it is another story altogether.

i am abit sceptical about all these shrimp types
maybe its just me![]()
i agree with hii
it is not unknown in the lfs trade for them to anyhow split out and give a name then increase price to get more buyers
even if really got color difference i am also kinda sceptical still
we have funny color fish selling in the lfs already so why not funny color shrimp?
i'm not trying to flame down the "new" shrimp
i have not even seen it before!!!![]()
but just my opinion that we should sometimes take all these "new" stuffs with a slight pinch of salt
Hi all,
Firstly, thanks for the replies. And I would like to say I agree with Hii and lee1224. This is why I am posting to ask about it first before buying. Seems like there is not much conclusive evidence that this is a new shrimp.
As for color difference, do you know that even normal cherries can have different colors? I once have a batch of cherries (self breed) that contains red, green and brown color shrimps in them - not purple though.
Hi YC Teo,
Maybe you can post a picture of your Sakura shrimps so that we know what you mean by near to purple?
- Luenny
very little is known about shrimps still despite their popularity in the aquarium
like you said, same shrimp species but can have different color.
very hard for us to tell
i swear i once had a malayan shrimp who changes color.
theres no mistaking cos he's the only shrimp in the tank
he started off as transparent-like, turned brown for a while, the next i saw he was black, after that he acquired a bright yellow stripe to add to the black
talking about the malayan shrimps, some people in Australian LFS have been known to selll them off as CRS when they turn into a similar colour! It was also done based on their environment, might be the same for the new cherries.
haha thats the perfect word to describe the fella
he went the commando way as well!
lost him when he tried to do a commando airborne jump
found the dried remains on the floor when i got home 1 day after work
kinda miss the fella
i don't know if its supposed to be very red or as yc-teo said orange/purple?
if its just very red i don't see whats special about it honestly as normal cherries can easily turn to that kind of reddishness in proper conditions
