Vincent,
That's a very nice Peruvian bitaeniata.
But didn't get a chance to see a "live" one.

It is a pity that all previous 3 broods of this pair were lost.
Hopefully they will do the 4th brood.
Oh... Here's a picture of him when I first bought him for a couple of months.
Can see that he has a few broken fins now. A pity. Hope it grows back soon.

hi bro valice. i notice that you have some leaves in the tank. may i know what leaves are those? and are they being picked off the street?
Nope. They are ketapang leaves bought in a huge quantity from C328.
You can pick the ketapang leaves from the road side if you know where to find the trees.
But will need to wash them and dry them.
Do you remove the leaves after a period of time as they will breakdown after sometime?

Nope. I will add more leaves on top of the broken down onces.
In nature, the leave litter can be as thick as 60cm.
that creates a really natural look and feel to the entire tank. i'm sure your fishes love the leaves as well. however, would it affect the water quality? how much ketapang leaves do you add in each time?
i am also a rather heavy user of ketapang leaves, and i always try my best to wash my leaves as thoroughly as possible but somehow my betta tanks will always end up with a layer of oil on the surface. as such i switch to using homemade ketapang leaves extract. perhaps in a filtered tank this would not take place? care to advise me?

Add some surface addition. Like bubbling sponge filters or airstones. The layer of oil should not be a problem anymore...However, yours is a betta tank, so this may not be applicable for you.

actually i'm facing the layer of oil problem for my 3ft tank recently as well, planning to get a surface skimmer. actually what causes the layer of oil? would airstones help sovle the oil problem in my 3ft?

Protein from the plants are the reason for it.
My tanks have a surface skimmer to break the oil.
no wonder. sorry i'm new to plants you see. thanks for the info, think i'll be getting a few surface skimmers soon!
