Anyone knows where I can get a simple, clean-cut design wooden cabinet/stand for a 1 foot cube tank?
Planning to get one for a new tank to put in the study
Looked around but can't find any suitable.

The closest I could find was a side table from Ikea - 43cm by 43cm by 39cm ==> 29 bucks
    http://www.ikea.com.sg/products/prod...ay.asp?id=2943

I would settle for that but Ikea is out of stock!!!
And I'm getting fed up with them 'cause everytime I call to check stock they promise me some other date, keep on delaying

I been promised stock will arrive from mid July till now still don't have!!!
Next date I got was 21 Aug. And I don;t hold much faith in their promised date given their record over the past month!!!

Thought the coffee table was this?
    http://www.ikea.com.sg/products/prod...ay.asp?id=2939

    OR this?
    http://www.ikea.com.sg/products/prod...ay.asp?id=2940

You remember how much you bought yours?
The one i'm looking at is $29
hmm... thought 43cm by 43xm wasn't very big
only 6+ cm clearance on all sides if I place right in center
I was planning put the tank more towards one side (either to the left or to the front) and put the eden501 filter right beside or behind the tank

and i was hoping no need to customise

Ikea furniture are made of chipboard. Not very lasting since when it gets wet whenever you do WC.

I bought the square one, I can't remember the exact dimension, but it is defenetly lest than 50cm. By the way I'm not sure if it is strong enough because mine is made of compress pieces/chip of wood as DCWK said.

I guess if you put it at center, it doesn't look that bad.

Bigger problem is that these particular tables, from experience, aren't very stable horizontally. I would trust them with the weight of a 1ft cube, and I even guess the chipboard wood isn't that much of a problem. But they only have one big screw for every leg, which isn't too stable horizontally e.g. if you accidentally bump into it.

(Edit: My experience is from about seven years ago, tho. Ikea changes their manufacturing process all the time, even if the products look the same from outside. So I guess it'd be worth a try.)

    i guess it should hold.
i bought earlier the same series of tables but of bigger size.
put a 29 inch old-style (read: big and very heavy) kind of TV on it
    Its holding perfectly.

thats why i thought of getting the smaller version for the tank

hmm...thats a good point. something i will have to look more seriously into.
i guess since its gonna be against the wall and against another shelve on one side, the danger of that won;t be too much

but i will look at alternatives..if i can find any!!!
anybody has any online store or something that i can browse?
or any custome maker i can contact for a quote?

i was a little apprehensive of the ikea table actually
deathly afraid i will wakeup one day to find a big pool of water, soil and dead fishes on my floor

Wow, lucky i found this thread! I was looking for a stand to put a 1ft cube as well. so far i've only seen one stand/tank set in biotope but the stand was out of my budget!

This ikea table looks pretty stable. would staining the table make it more resistant to water?

Not staining. Varnish if you want more water-resistance.

But those tables the guys are looking at might not have exposed wood surfaces.

the daslev one looks stable. the one with the metal bars underneath.

i don't have enough posts to PM but the stand was in the low 3 digit range.

i think its a JBJ nanocube stand. the S shaped one.

Holy cow! which Ikea outlet was it? Tampines or Alexandra
I will call tomorrow to confirm and will zip down there once I am off work!

My last call to Ikea on Sat a few days back to check stock on the 43x43 they told me earliest is 21st Aug!!!

    Thats it. This is official.
I have made 5 calls to Ikea customer hotline since early July and every single time their answer was inaccurate and basically they just want to get me off the line.
I understand they can't commit to a given date for me but in general the service I have received from their call centre so far basically ==> IT SUCKS.

And for the record, I am definitely not those kind of demanding and I-am-the-king kind of caller.

Thanks for the offer. Let me check out the Ikea one again and I will contact you if I am not going for the Ikea one.

If the Ikea one doesn't make it I am going to custom make something.
Although my budget not high since its just going to be a small tank for "decoration" in my study.

I think okay can try 'cause the LACK series the chipboard surface seems quite thick and sturdy.
But I will check again and confirm.
Abit scared after some of the bros mention about it weakening especially with water around.

i went to the alexandra one. the 43x43 comes with the smaller table also right? i think i saw the boxes. it was right under the display at the self service part.

better call them to check just in case.

anyway the lack is not that bad after all. the laminate top seems to repel water quite well and the top is damm thick. i tried to stand on it hahah.

i think as long as you don't splash water all over the table it should be ok.
