Recently did a recalibration of my pH test pen with the buffer solution 7.0 provided. Did a test on singapore tap water and was surprise that the reading was 7.8!!! Seems like the solution played me out liao man! I need to get a new set of buffer solution to calibrate...how much does it cost??? What is the shelf life?

you'd be surprised people get tap water with pH 8

At 6.4pH and 3dKH, you should get bubbling if everything else is right, cos there's more CO2 then at 6.8pH and 3dKH. If they are not bubbling, then look at other factors like amount of light, amount of nutrients, etc, that affect photosynthesis.

the bubbling effect is not dependent on the kH, pH
temperature affects it
the warmer the water the more easily the plants bubble
simply because the bubbles come out into the water instead of solution when the oxygen level in the water is saturated
so a lot of plants with enough co2 at even very high pH can still bubble
that's my point
main thing i would look for is lighting and co2
So DEA..do you bother with stuff like KH and pH? Seen at the krib site which shows that Takashi amano does not bother with KH as chemical additive is needed to increase it. Is it possible not to use pH and KH test kits cause kinda expensive to keep using them [] ...Can I just add CO2 slowly (about 1 bubble every 4-5 seconds for a 2 ft tank) and use my eyes to judge by the bubbling and the way the fishes behave to set the amount of CO2?

Opps... don't mean to imply that KH and pH affects bubbling directly.
I meant that at those values, you should have enough CO2 in the water for bubbling if other factors are right. Since the plants are not bubbling, go look at the other factors... as pointed out by DEA.

peter, i basically don't bother with measuring kh anymore
i just dump in baking soda once in a while
measure pH using a digital meter when i'm bored
and my co2 is set at 3 bps using an external reactor
DEA, how do you go about setting your bubble rate? Like what vinz do? Please enlighten me as if there is any way I can judge the correct amount of CO2 in the tank water without the need for test kits? I had this though as my cheap pH controller shows a difference of 0.4 from my pH test pen both after calibration which means equipment may not be accurate after all...

DEA..mine is only a 2feet coz space restriction. How you aga aga one? Never use anything can come out with bubbling rate one meh? Use fish as guide ah?
