    Can anyone advise on using the UV external light to treat greenwater. Some said it will kill good bacteria, some say its ok.

    jus connect yr UV filter on yr inlet pipe that way.. that way u can avoid sterilizing any good bacteria oredi in yr filter.. remember not to turn it on 24/7, ard 4 hrs is good enuff for a planted tank

    Thanks Simon,

    What you mean is connect the UV filter to the part after my surface schemer?
    Because at the moment, I have done it the other way.

    hi hatchet

    think simon is trying to say not to connect the UV filter to the inlet pipe but at the outlet one just after the filter.

    you won't sterilise any bacteria already in your filter unless you blast the uv directly at it

    Aiyoh, Simon, David... dun confuse ppl leh.

    Tank--->Filter--->UV--->Tank
    Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
    Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
    A woman, without her man, is nothing.
    A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    Yeah, connect the UV on the outlet. That's what Chan at NA said as well.

    As for the usefulness, I think it does have it's advantages.
    I'm using one and so far, no problems. Water is always really clear.

    I not sure about this, but it seems good at disease prevention as well. When I first introduced cardinals and rummy noses into my tank, there were a couple of cardinals with white spots and 1 rummy nose with a fungal spot on it's gill area. Didn't add salt or anything to the tank coz of the plants. After about 2 weeks all the fish were ok.

    just my experience...
