Sorry having to disappoint you, Eden 320 is an internal filter. The Eden 501 is the only canister filter the company is producing.

For your tank size of 1.4 x 1.4 x 1.7 ft, get a Eheim canister filter

    thanks guys for enlightening me.

so there's no point for me getting the eden 320...
any recommended external filter canister for my 1.4 x 1.4 x 1.6/7 tank?
i think the most suitable flowrate would be 400 l/hr. your help will be greatly appreciated!

    thanks shadow,

one last thing, can the flowrate be regulated? i've checked eheim's webbie regarding the pump's delivery head and stuff, but didn't get any info on whether the flowrate can be regulated......

btw, roughly how much does it cost? if it's inconvenient for you to state any prices, please pm me. but as much as i know, eheim is a bit on the steep side. any other recommendations for cheaper alternatives?

for Eheim 2211 and 2213, you need to buy seperate valve.

Cost wise, it Eheim so it is the most expensive filter but also the most reliable. It easily last for 5 years.

Buy a reliable one... imagine going home to see your house flooded with water... other than flowrate, power, etc. Reliability is also important as leakage can be a nightmare.

If you can afford, go for better ones

my previous 2215 lasted me for 7 years + but it finally decided to retire when the parts started to give way. A new one cost quite a bit but it can last you for very long.
Cheaper alternatives include cheaper brands like Dolphin, Jebo...etc. They do have smaller version with lower flowrate suitable for your tank. Price wise is about 20-40% cheaper depending on what you choose.
You can also look for second hand ehiem canister. Some bro do put them up for sale when they upgrade or give up hobby.

Check Eheim models for yourself at http://www.eheimasiapacific.com/English/external.htm

2213 and 2215 are classics and I believe they do not come with media (I could be wrong) nor media baskets (this is for sure). I would go for the Ecco, Pro or Pro 2 series. Those come with media, baskets and valves. By the time you pay for a valve and comparable media, the price will be about the same.

The advantages of the Pro 2 is self priming, flow rate indicator and an adjustable flow. Self-priming and flow indicator are luxury items to me... can do without. Adjustable flow... the normal valve on the Pro or Ecco do the same job.

You can control flow rate by adjusting the output valve of the filter (i.e. the valve for water to exit the filter). The input valve should ALWAYS be open fully during normal operation.

according to Soon Heng Yishun, original classic package comes with media
those that come without media at a cheaper price are 'repackaged' sets

Nowadays, the classics also come with media baskets already. But they are not as friendly as the Pro 2 series which have individual baskets (2 for 2026 and 3 for 202. The classic ones have only one basket which you put everything inside. Troublesome when you want to wash rinse only part of the media.

Goes to show how outdated I am. I better stick to back-room issues... or get out more!

I found that seperate tray is trouble some. With the clasic model, I just dump everything inside to backet and wash/rinse it. I always put the media into a net, so no problem in mixing. You can also wash seperate media.

The drawback for clasic is you need to buy your own valve.

I bought my 1st canister from them 11 years ago, an Eheim Classic 2217 or 2215 I think, for SS$100+, for 4 ft tank haha!

yea.. im using 2213. i washed my filter spong 1 times i swear i never want to wash it again.
need to drain out the water from the canister if not your floor will be wet... and after power is on, you need to suck until face green then water will flow.

can't be that bad, are you using the quick release valve?

I'm using 2215 and 2217 with quick release valve and never need to do any sucking. The secret is after cleaning, connect the inflow quick release valve but leave the outflow unconnected. open in the inflow valve follow by ourflow valve. Let the water from the tank flow into the canister until it full and start flowing out from the outflow hose. Of course you need to put the outflow hose to a bucket. Once water coming out, close the valve and connect it to the tank. Ta da... no sucking is needed.
