Got a surprise today! Here's what I found. My Sturisoma panamense aka Royal Twig Suckermouth Catfish guarding the eggs.

Sorry for the quality of the photograph. A rushed shot.

Have a MMF trio (I think) in a bare cory tank. Think what triggered the spawn was the cooler weather and a deliberate lowering of water level a few days ago. In any case, this looks like a good nice spawn.

Hope that the eggs don't turn white.

Thanks valice, daveeogh, benny and stardus00...

Got an update!!! Check out the development!!! It's been more than 3.5 days. Probably close to 100 eggs? Sweet!!!

The male (15cm) is fanning the eggs religiously. I should remove the cories asap.

    Congrats!
From what I understand from others who have spawned this fish before, the difficult part is raising them up.

    The cories didn't spawn??

Is this the same fish, which Y618 called it as helicopter?

    Hi,

Congrats. Looking forward to seeing more pics of their development!
By the way, you know what triggered the spawning?

Thanks daveteogh, benny, stardus00 and CacaManiac... I've got more updates!!!

Richie, actually, I haven't seen the female near the eggs but the male is doing a fantastic job.

CK Yeo, nope, the cories didn't spawn. They are a bit older, probably past their prime for spawning. I'll try my best at raising the fries.

uklau, I have no idea why it's called helicopter. Maybe it's the tail.

bossteck, i've posted the so-called 'triggers'.. but it could be anything. I'm just guessing.

    Today(Sunday) at 4+pm.

    The eggs have gotten darker.

But check this out! I still have most of the eggs there but here's a little impatient bugger. Amazingly, I have two of these!!! They developed much faster compared to the rest.

This is so coool! I guess you don't have to feed the fries since they will readily munch on algae and micro organism in your tank?
