There are different wiews about when to add liquid fertilisers.

    This is just my view.

    1. Algae usually thrives when there are excess of macro nutrients, especially NH3. When you have already added fishes, you are already introducing lots of N and P, in particular NH3. In most commercial liquid fertilisers, they contains only traces + K & Mg.

    2. The mass of plants in your tank are very much larger compared to algae, even if you have algae infestations. That means the amount of nutrients required by your plants are very much higher than the algae, even if your plants are "not establish" (I have not buy into this idea that they require less nutrients at this stage. Still waiting for someone to convince me....). If you are going to limit traces, you are likely to limit your plants first before you hurt the algae. Remember that tap water itself already contains enough nutrients itself for algae to start growing.

The only way to combat algae growth is by provide sufficient nutrients to your plants for healthy growth.

Please share your views too. I am still learning.

i took out the vallis and cleaned off the rotten leaves. found new runners and new shoots. cleared the rotten stuff and replanted. hope it goes well

RMX, if you see new runners, you are in the right track. Soon you have headache controlling the vals from spreading to other areas.[]
