in my limited experience, water changes seem more crucial than live foods. i've never fed live foods to my apistos except on 1 occasion, but it seems that every time i get a spawn, it's right after a water change.

so if you're worried about parasites/bacteria in live foods, just stick with frequent water changes without the live foods and you'll likely experience a spawn anyway.

Basically a good home with good food and loads of hiding places. Just like humans really.

I agree with waterchanges being a factor to spawning....it occurs often in other parts of the world as well

anyone know if the water change will induce both male and female to breed or just the female? my experiences thus far are only with a horny male and a reluctant female..so water changes have induced the female to breed.

now i'm stuck with a horny female and a reluctant male...any ideas?

haha that's a very funny way to put it. i think apistos are generally like humans, it quite hard to find an un-horny male you know. maybe your femae is a chilli padi, too hot for your male to handle haha. if impotent, time to introduce fish viagra!
