Hi Horacio,
Most people keep Apistos either in a species tank or in a simple south American type community tank with no other large predatory fishes.
Do read up on the living conditions of Apistos for a more informed decision.
Cheers
hihi. i was wondering how much these apistos cost? keep reading alot on them. quite tempted to keep some too. :P just wondering how much would they cost for a pair?
um another question is what fishes can i put them with? currently i've a 2 feet tank with 2 fronts, 1 ornate bichir, 1 albino senegalus, 1 polypterus delhezi, 1 dragon king (direct translate frm chinese), 1 long fin senegalus, 1 polypterus palmas.
intend to change to a 3 feet tank soon though. wondering if i can put these apistos inside with them?![]()

"Live simply, simply live."
4ft Tank: 4 Altums, 2 Bristle Noses, 2 Panda Garras
2ft Tank 1: 1 Tetraodon Baileyi
2ft Tank 2: 1 Monotrete Abei
2ft Tank 3: 1 Tetraodon Cochinchinensis
Looking at the fauna in your tank, most of them are carnivorous and can grow really big.. Apistos are small as compared to them.. Your bichirs wold definitely eat them up!
oh man. lol. Then what if i put them with my 2 frontosas? will it be alright?

No way. They'll become snacks for your frontosa. Expensive ones too.
Besides, the water condition required for frontosas is hard alkaline water compared to soft acidic water for apistogrammas.
Why not use the 2ft tank to house apistogrammas after you move the other fishes to a 3ft. It'll be perfect for a pair.
ah. i've been specifically requested to type out in proper speaking ENGLISH. thus i shall.
hmm. well. i was hoping to keep apistos until probably next year or so because i've an overseas attachment at the end of this year. so i'd probably have to wait out till next year before i make any other plans in keeping apistos.
horacio,
Welcome to the club!
We all have been schooled to write proper English too.
I find it beneficial as I have forgotten how to spell correctly since
using SMS English.
Anyway Apisto, like other fish have different quality at different prices.
For $20 you can get a pair of Caca, but you'll have to fork out about
10 times more if you are looking for a rarer breed.

Well. if you are going to be in an overseas attachment, probably it's advisable to wait out. Fries need constant feeding and will take time to take care. Probably need to hatch bbs too in order to feed them. Unless of course you have help at home.
Also, be warned that breeding apistogrammas need space too. You can house a pair in a 1ft cube tank (though the bigger the tank the better), and probably need a grow-out tank too for the fries. However, there are bros here who have succeeded to grow their fries together with the parents. It really depends. Also, breeding and keeping apistogrammas are rather addicitve. So it will be great that you are around to enjoy this great hobby.

yeah. i'll be waiting it out unless there are people who want to take over my bichirswell i went down one time and the person there told me in my 1 and a half feet tank i can keep 2 pairs in it.
