have a 3 feet planted tank. height is 1.5feet.

as for lighting, what kind of lighting will be good?

FL, PL or t5? as for my plants, fissidens not doing well lately.. currently using
    2 X 25watts 10,000k FL and 2 x 36watts 10,000k PL.

currently thinking of changing the whole light setup to t5. 8000k or 10000k t5 will be advisable to be used? pros and cons?
4 x t5 will be alright for the 3 feet tank?

    thanks

Read up on the light requirements for the plant and you'll find the answer on what kind of lights are needed. Marry the requirements to the specifications of the different type of lights (FL, PL, T5 or MH) and you should get the answer.

Some basic idea is that the more kelvin the tube gives out, the whiter the light is. Heat emitted and 'throw distance' is also another factor to be considered.

the general rule of thumb is 2 watts per gallon. for plants with higher lighting requirements, you'll need to cater 3~4 watts per gallon.

6500k light is close to sunlight colour temperature. 10000k will be bluish and are usually used for marine.

fl, pl, t5 are fluorescent tubes in different forms. pl and t5 are more compact compare to fl. which type to choose depends on your budget and amount of space available for your lights.

and are giving your plants sufficient nutrients?

Amano uses his 150 MH for 90cm (3ft) tanks. The smaller the tank the more WPG it needs.

@ tawauboy: Actually 10,000K bulbs are not all bluish. As color is not entirely dictated by the temperature. Certain tri-phosphors 10,000K bulbs produce very white light. Amano's PL tubes are 10,000K. I personally prefer 8,000K to 10,000K looks better.
    I'm back!
