Hi all.. I am using an Eheim 2028 external filter.. I have observed that when running this setup the temperature of the water is a steady 30C.. Is this normal..??.. No fans used and the water output is right at the surface which causes some surface agitation. Temperature in the room is 28C.

    Anyone with similar experience..

Yes. Water temperature will be slightly higher if you run a pump. I don't think surface agitation as the same as evaporative cooling using a fan blowing the water surface.

What about lighting? They contribute to heat if they are on as well.

Thanks CK and KF.. I thought that I was just paranoid... This tank (3ft) is just extreamly low tech.. so didn't use lights.. just used Java fern and moss and a little fauna.. (handful of brigittae) .. no feeding .. no water change.. just top up..

also a little worried that with the warm temp infestation or bacteria outbreak might occur..

I'm not sure if the 2028 heats up the water that much. I've been observing the temp in my tank. It was 27C this morning at 7am. After I turned on 2x30W lights, temp steadily increased thru the day. It was 29.8C when I last looked at 8pm.

My low-tech 4x2x2 is just 1 week old. By the looks of it, I will be severely restricted in my choices of plants due to the high water temperature.

Is there any chance that I can get a good looking moss wall, without a chiller and CO2 injection?

A simple AC fan will do the trick of pushing your tank temperature down to ambient temperature levels minus 1 or 2 degrees.

Then have to top up water every day
It's not just "Step1: Add Water, Step2: Add Fish" If everything else don't work, add plastic plants and fish
