I saw some egg lay on the rock, same location as before. My previous spawn is total failure, all fry gone whithin a day after they free swimming.
There are 2 other fish species in my tank Otos and corydoras pygmaeus. Does this two fish dangerous to the fry? Otos are save to shrimps fry, I hope it also save for ram fry. Any suggestion?
This time around I bought Liquifry and Hikari first bites, I hope they like it

the Otos should be harmless to your fries...as far as i know, the cories should be fry safe as well...i've only read of them being threats to eggs and not fries, but i have no first hand experience in this so i may be wrong. what might have happened is that the parents felt threatened by something (could be other fish, could be people moving around the tank) and ate up their own fry.
Anymore suggestion? the egg is wiggling now, will swim free in 1 or 2 days time.
Is moving half of the fry to shrimp tank good idea?

saw the fry swimming today, hopefully it survive until monday. Previous spawn, it all gone after 2 days from start swimming.

Guess it's a bit too late to do anything now if you haven't remove the other fishes. Removing them now may spooke the parents into eating the fries. Well, all you can do now is keep your fingers crossed.
Well I can't still believe that otos and corys will eat the fry. They are algae eater and scavenger. Just cross my finger now.

otos are definitely fry safe, and i think the parents should be able to defend even if the corys decide to try and feed on the fry...i think the usual problems i've heard with corys is eating of the eggs, not the fry

Hi Shadow, put in some java moss. Take out all other fishes and start feeding the parent rams live food. The rams will start to spawn again. Once you see wrigglers, do not get too close to the tank, the parent rams will get spooked and eat up the fries. I hope these tips will help you to raise the next batch of fries successfully.
I got spiky moss. I feeding the parent with frozen blood worms.
I did cover all side of the tank with black color card box once they are spawn. Can't cover the top though
Do I need to feed the parent generaously once the egg hatch? I was thinking that feed them more so that frys become less attractive to them but afraid of amonia spike.
I don't have SAE, only corry and otos

5) Starve to dead (unlikely because I feed them liquifry)

it's definitely not the otos that ate the fry. i suspect it's either that the parents got spooked or the fry died due to water conditions. unlikely that they starved as they should find ample food in your spiky moss
i have read reports on other forums about ram parents getting spooked and eating their fry for no apparent reason, even when the owners didn't do anything to spook them, so it might just be that the parents are inexperienced and need a few more spawns before they manage to successfully raise their fry.
hopefully that the case. Maybe I should turn off the light once the egg hatch. sudden light on or off might spook the parent

Just saw this update. So sorry for your loss. Anyway, if parents eat fries it could be a few reasons:
- Parents not experience enough.
- Parents feel that fries have no chance of survival either due to:
- Disease or defect or
- Disturbances
Disturbances can be due to humans or other fauna such as your corys and otos. This is the reason why I ask you to remove them. Not that they will eat the fries directly but they can disturb the parents too much until the parents gave up and eat the fries themselves because they think that the fries have no chance of survival anyway.
