Handle broke and now cannot close.

Can it be repaired and it is worth while to do it OR it is a goner.

I already got a replacement (Hydra) but may still want to repair it to keep it as a spare and maybe even sell it later to someone who needs it to startup a small tank

You can get it serviced at Qian Hu. But you could get the part and try replacing it yourself . A friendly LFS could order it in for you, or you can head up to Qian Hu. You need the part number from the manual or get the manual online at http://www.eheim.de/eheim/inhalte/index.jsp?id=25074 (Customer Center => downloads => manuals). See page 63 of the online manual. Check if it's the handle that you broke or the clip. My experience with Eheim is that most of the ir parts can be self-replaced. The only thing you cannot fix is the motor itself.

I cannot comprehend why people keep breaking their Ecco's handles. I have 2 seven year old Eccos and they are just fine. The handles get a little stuck sometimes, but nothing that can't be resolved. Maybe they didn't read this (page 10 of the online manual):
    OPENING AND CLOSING THE FILTER
    Opening:
IMPORTANT. First close the shut-off tap on the suction side “IN” (Fig. H), and afterwards the tap on the pressure side “OUT” (Fig. I) before disconnecting the mains plug (Fig. J). Loosen both taps by turning the threaded sockets to separate the hose assembly from the filter. WARNING: If the taps are not separated from the pump head the filter cannot be opened.

Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    Thanks.... hahaha.

My mum broke it when trying to get it start after a water change which I had to get her to do as my shrimps are dying by the dozens. Was out of the country.

When I am back, pump still working but the handle is a goner...

    Thanks for the directions.

Mine is the older version Ecco 2235.

My experience with it is that the handle is flimsy. I cannot prime with it now. And the last time I washed it, it came off too but did not break. I just snap it back and carefully pushed it to get the filter water tight.

Mine is the 2234 series I believe.

The handle does not see to be broken it just fall off when I took out the media to wash. Then cannot put back anymore to prime.

So I guess it is broken but cannot find any broken pieces just that it does not prime anymore and also cannot be used to hold the top on.

The handle priming function is not as friendly and is prone to be damaged by rough handlers like us .

The CF 1200 Atman that I am using uses the push button type design, more troublesome but seems to be working fine. The Hydra method of self priming by filling up with water is also worknig quite well and as it does not have a moving part is great for people like me and occasionally my mum.
