    Hi,
New here. Can anyone tell me how to choose a good driftwood for my 1.5 ft tank? And how much it will coast? Thanks.

Size and shape are personal preference, and it will determine the price. I would say range from $3 to $25 for a dw in 1.5 tank. You could also use a few small dw, it give you flexible option to layout.

Not sure you know how to differentiate between driftwood and bogwood, do your homework else may regard. Bogwood generally don't sink!

are you sure? i have got both in all my tanks and they are nicely submerged. I believe bogwood just takes a longer time for it to get soak through.

Sorry if I confused you! That is what I mean. I should have said "Raw from LFS will not sink". I used bogwood too, soak for 3 wks and boiled 2 times for it to sink.

I think you just have to weigh it (bog wood) down and over time it will sink.. sometimes its been dry for too long.. 3 weeks is quite long.. I "kenna" one that I had to weigh down for 2 months..

"look good".. normally most folks will choose those with more branches rather than less..

"cost" depends on the size and the "look good" quality.. you can look in marketplace on this website..

Driftwood will definitely sink even for a small piece. That is also why you see java ferns, nana, etc. tied on driftwood sold at LFS.

Bogwood would also sink after a period of time no matter how "big" it is. It just needs to be "soaked" thoroughly.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

To bring the WHOLE topic back inline, to choose a driftwood, it depends on your scape.
One question to ask yourself when planning is, what type of scape do I want to achieve.

Branchy? Blocky? Or you just want something in the tank to take up space.
For a small tank, go for small single pieces of wood and put them together to form one whole hardscape.

If you want branchy, flowy type of wood, then go for those light mangrove root type of wood. And like all the discussion above is arguing, they take a longer time to sink by themselves.

Else, there are the more expensive, but also difficult-to-find-now type of pre-processed hardwood and again assemble them together.

Another consideration to selection of wood is size. A small tank, you need an appropriately sized one. One which will not look oversized when you put it in your tank and make the whole tank look small. A successful selection of wood, stone and plant makes a small tank look big, and a big tank look huge!

Aquastar in Yishun have many small DWs for small tank size... I just bought 2 from them last Sunday.

You are staying near there so better to check out there to see if you can find what you want.

    Good luck in your search

The smaller ones are typically from 3 Singapore golden coins

What to do with driftwood/ bogwood when first bought from LFS?

I just bought a wood for a new aquarium that i'll be setting up. Just wondering what I need to do.

Currently, I am soaking it in hot water in a pail. It's not fully submerged, as I don't have a pail big enough for the wood.

I bought a rather 'weak' wood, whereby some parts are about to break-off if force is applied. The reason for this is how the wood look, and I really like it.

What other things that I need to do? Is there any chemical stuff that I can add to 'kill' of any worm, algae, etc.?

I used to have a neighbour, who got a wood and after a while, he noticed some white tiny worms living on the wood, though he soaked it inside water with salt added.

I used to soak my driftwood with potassium permaganate to rid of nasty stuff. You can buy this from pharmacies.

When getting/choosing driftwood of any sort, you should imagine how they look like in your tank, it will help if you can arrange them out on the ground and view them in different angles.

for good selection and suitable types, I will recommend Midori and NA

LFS Clementi 328 has a good variety. What I did was, soak it for a week then scrub it. Some tanin will be released. Thereafter boil it everyday for 3 days. Not much tanin stain in my tank.

for those who had vehicle and time to drive up to neighbouring kulai in johor you can check out this place called nanyang fish farm at 197 air bemban 81020 kulai johor malaysia

the place is just after the main trunk road that passby senai airport

last week went there and bought 2 extra large pieces of driftwood for my 5ft tank and it cost me only $25 ringgit each which in singapore this might set me back at $60 singapore dollars a piece

on top of that they have other "exotic" fishes and turtles that wedont get to see or "banned" in singapore

do check out if you have a car to drive up
