"Having breed tropical fish for many years, I have been looking for a new challenge.
After 4 months research I decided to try and breed Altum angelfish,
So 4 weeks ago I purchased 10 wild court Altum Angelfish, there new home is 400 litre’s tank.
This was on the Saturday, 5 days later I sat and watched as a pair of Altum angelfish spawned on a large leaf.
All my research said Altum angelfish very rearly breed in captivity
From the 10 Altums , I now have 4 pairs, that have all spawned,
Altums are beautiful fish, the colours are truly amazing, unfortunately you don’t see Altum angelfish in many LFS is Australia.
Been wild court they are very expensive."

a lot of times, when you want the fish to spawn, they are like constipated.

then when you turn ard and give up, they stick their eggs all over the place.

but Altums are unlikely to do so.. had 6 for 1 1/2 and nothing happens.. I think it has to do with the water chemistry

"PH 7.2 GH 5 KH 3 water temp 30c 1500 lts per hour filter 50% water change every 3 days."
this was wad he wrote in response to pple in the angelfish forum.
Actually, i m quite doubtful as u can see the pH is 7.2!!It's too high for altums to spawn.Don't u agree? [:0]

I guess he was lucky then.. but wouldnt be surprised to find them spawning in neutral waters rather than soft water

I do not know. But apparently with many many breeders, ph is not a concern.

Once the fish are acclimatised to a certain ph provided it is not too extreme, there will be absolutely no effect on the well-being and reproductivity of the fish.

Provided the transition is careful, deliberate and slowly done.

I always believe that with many fish, it is not abt the water parameters. But with the wellbeing, and some luck too. If a fish dont want, you can throw it back into its old river and it still doesnt want..

    fwah really?

then that guy must have spent quite some time adjusting the ph..or someone had done that before he got the fish.

maybe he had bred oscars instead.

From the looks of it, i will say he will know at least how to tell altum apart from those more common in the hobby.

Yeah can ask him to post pics.
