If you have fish in the tank they may eat the babies. Don't remove the shrimp or it may go into shock. The baby shrimp will need lots of plants to hide in(moss is good for that).
My 10 year old son just started his tank of red cherries 2-3 weeks ago and we discovered that one of them is carrying orange-coloured stuff in the stomach. Suspect those might be eggs.
Need advice on how to care for the mummy shrimp (should we separate it from the rest, what is needed to ensure smooth delivery of the shrimplets)![]()

Thanks for the advice. I only have red cherry shrimps in the tank so i don't need to remove n separate it . Guess i will need more moss........btw the mummy shrimps will give birth to young shrimplets or lay her eggs on the moss??? How long does it take to see shrimplets?
Mum holds onto the eggs until they hatch into really tiny shrimplets. The moss is for them to hide in. Becareful if you do any water change or filter cleaning. They are very hard to see. Happy shrimping!
Thanks for the warning and advice.

Do remember to use netting or sponge to cover your filter inlet. The shrimplets will get sucked in if inlet is not covered.
Hi yeoyl87
Remember me i've got the spiky moss from you just last week. You mean to cover around the filter inlet on the outer side? How ? with strings?

yeah i remember youhope the spiky moss had grown wild in your tank. Hmm... Yeah, cover the outer side. You can use string/fishing line/small cable tie.

You need to put something that is can allow water to pass through but not the shrimplets.
You can have cloth or nettings (small holes) and have it tie around the inlet area or just visit a LFS and buy a sponge that fits the inlet and just put it in.
The official ones from LFS is generally some sort of Yellow sponge with a hole in the middle. Ususally cost a few bucks.

The unofficial one is the garlic mesh bag. Free with garlic or comes with free garlic, depending how you look at it.
Ok got the idea now . Thanks everyone for the advice. Appreciate it.
