Hi Bro, I need some advice for doing a built-in cabinet for my new tank. Basically the new tank cabinet will be beside the LCD TV feature wall and based on the design, it's going to be a full height cabinet. If you have a similar cabinet, can you send me some photos on how's your design for the cabinet?

Also, I have some questions here that need answers ...

    1. For a 422 tank, how high is the base of the cabinet for the tank? If it's too high, then maintenance is a problem as I can't reach the inside of the tank. If it's too low, then the tank is not at eye-level when you are standing. Is there a std height?

    2. How much space did you leave above the tank in the cabinet? I will be doing a flip-up cabinet door so that inside is empty for the T5 lights. However, I am not sure how much space shd I give? for maintenance and heat problem?

I hope you understand what I am trying to picture here .. if not, I am try to draw a picture to explain .

Usually, the height of the base is around 2 ft.

i'd suggest not to have the tank beside/near the TV.
quite a distraction when you want to watch tv or admire your tank.
have both at different areas of the house so as they can be the centre of attraction of that particular part of the house

you can check out the galleries of some tank makers for an idea

Won't the tank be very low? Does it affect the viewing? This is really a headache ... I am thinking of 2.5ft .. what do you think?

Thanks for the links. The side of the tank nearer to the TV will be blocked and hence the lights won't affect the TV screen. Due to the layout of my house, it's kinda of weird to put the tank anywhere else ...

A good designer would know the specs needed to accommodate any tank of your preference. At least if something really bad were to happen, there's Duty of Care involved. Its comforting to know that LCD TV, unlike CRT, doesn't have much of reflectivity issue.

Thanks for the replies so far. I think 2.5ft height is good for the base. Can somebody share with me their experiences on the space on top of the tank?

Ok, after doing some research, I think the top needs at least 1.5ft clearance for easy maintenance of the tank.

Would 1.5 ft leave enough clearance for you to add drift/bog wood into your tank should you decide to do so one day?
