Anyone know what is the use of it?
Can anyone explain to me what is the use of it?
I intend to get Bio-Rio and the Bamboo Charcoal for to be used as my filter media.
Does it helps to have Tourmaline F in my filter?
The filter I am using is Ehiem 2026.
Anyone care to enlighten me?
PS : Stan, can help![]()

Thanks. I read that up on the website too.
Just wanted to find out more should I also add that into my canister filter.

Bottom tray, is normally the rough media.
Blue sponges or sintered glass/ceramic media. You may seed this area with some bacter balls + a teaspoon of Penac W.
Then Bio-Rio under Palm Net.
Then you can put the Tourmaline F under the Bamboo Charcoal.
Cover with fine sponge.
This is how I do it BTW. The ADA 2006 catalogue shows one or two ways to stack your media.

What is the Palm Net for?

Stan, I read before that Palm Net reduces the pH of the water. Does it stain the water?
Nic, Palm Net acts as a form of mechanical filteration and also separation media for the different media in the filter.
Mmmmh...what is the PENAC thingie? Seems like it can also prevent algae. Read more here ...http://www.organicsa.co.za/Products/...c-w_water.html

Penac W is simply additional minerals. Minerals not just for plants but for the microorganisms as well.
The Palm Net has water softenising properties like peat. It also traps bio-rio pumice well. It does not stain water to a noticeable degree from what I can see.

ADA's Tourmaline is something which contains carbon which is "food" for biological bacteria. This is what it says in ADA's catalog.
I'm back!
The entire ADA system revolves around bacteria and biological harmony and natural breakdown of nutrients... Even their filter system is all about biological filteration rather than mechanical filteration.
Valice,
I know you have been reading up on ADA stuff.
Let said I have a 2026, what ADA stuff you will put in it?

My 2028 will have full 2L of Bio-rio, Eheim SubstratePro and Bio-ring, fine wool and Bamboo Charcoal. Lazy to go the way of NA Carbon then Charcoal. Just go straight to charcoal. After that can act as my biological filteration already.
TURMALINE BC

Tourmaline is a mineral compound
of iron, aluminium,
sodium, boron, lithium and
magnesium which are gradually
dissolved, enriching
water of important elements.
Tourmaline BC is an electrostatic
mineral that increases
roots plant nutrition.
In particular Glossostigma
Elatinoides grows 50% more
than its normal development.

According to experienced users, the charcoal can be left in there forever as it will work as a biological filter after the chemical filteration has expired. For NA carbon, it is said that it is to be removed after a couple of weeks and then replaced with the charcoal.
I am not sure if the same bamboo charcoal which can be found at Daiso can be used to the same effect as the bamboo charcoal from ADA. Maybe the same effect can be achieved.
Some CRS keepers put the bamboo charcoal inside their tank.
I just got some Bamboo Charcoal from Daiso, crushed them into smaller pieces, put into a stocking and now they are inside my filter. It feels different from ADA's. Have to see if there's any effect.
I'm back!
