    Hi, I would like to seek for your opinions on the above mentioned approach.

    I'm trying to reduce the number of piping or hose in my tank by connecting another pump (1000-2000L/h) to the existing inlet & outlet of Rena XP3 (1350L/h). This pump is to drive a chiller & CO2 reactor.

    The inlet is the normal strainer inlet. As for the outlet, I'm planning to DIY a rainbar across the back pane of my tank (42").

    Please do share your experience with me. Thanks in advance.

    Anyone tried this before?

    Another idea I have in mind is to take out the impellar for the canister filter & buy a more powerful pump to drive the canister filter, CO2 reactor & chiller. Not too sure if this will reduce the filtration capabilities as water flow is much higher.

    Any thought?

    I think a filter canister works best by itselt because it a pressure system. If there more connections then its losses it pump pressure for it to work properly.

    Hi Ben,

    The general view held by most hobbyists is that water should flow over filter media as slowly as possible to let the beneficial bacteria do their job.

    So the idea of getting a more powerful pump to connect the 3 equipment may not be so good.

    Just my views.

    Thanks, Eric. Your feedback together with Eddyq's rings the bell. Now, I have good reasons for leaving the canister filter alone . When the manufacturer design the filter, they may not take into consideration for other equipment to be connected inline.

    Perhaps connecting small equipment, which has minimum influence to the water flow is fine.

    canister: eheim 2028
    chiller: artica 1/5hp

    take note, you will need to use bigger tubing size. 1260 is very powerful. 2028 o-ring may not withstand the pressure.
    extra precaution is to have a tap at the outlet of 1260 to tune down the flow
