My latest acquisition. I was never into A.agassizii, but was quite amazed by its colour.

the colours actually look pretty dull to me, maybe it's the camera i like the clearly defined patterns on the tail though

regardless, as long as you enjoy your new catch that's all that matters!

When I got this pair, they were infected with white spots. But I was very tempted by their vibrant colours. So I decided to take a risk and bought them. Occasionally the male will exhibit a red front back. Think haven't acclimatized. Still in the process of transferring from tank to tank.

Maybe overlooked by many because at that time it's infected with white spots and not in it's best condition. Luckily it didn't grab your attention. haha.

Nice female as well. You saved them from their "prison" Saw the pair before they got the white spots. Brilliantly coloured male.

Thanks for all the comments. Hoping the next generation will have the same qualities as their parents. But I'm letting nature take its course. No tuning of water parameters.

Wasabi8888, any updates on your adult pair?

Today for the very first time in my apisto keeping adventure, I actually witnessed the spawning process right before my very own eyes. Seeing how the female attaches the eggs. A wonderful and fulfilling experience. The eggs are laid on a acrylic divider. Easily more than 50 eggs. From a pretty fat belly female to a skinny one. But however I was surprised that she did rather spawned on the acrylic divider rather than in a dug out cave underneath a lava rock.

Amazing. They actually spawned on the divider rather than a cave. My agassizii red-black has also spawned but my male agasizii is badly battered up by the female.

This is a real time situation. Female still in spawning process.

From previous spawning experience, female is very aggressive towards male. But I would usually remove the male after I saw fries. Cause afraid that early removal of the male might not have fertilized the eggs.

Yup some fails to attach. Hopefully I can also witnessed the colour change of the eggs from being laid to hatching as fries. Provided that the male doesn't eat them. Haha.

Congrats wilson! That was quick! What sort of cave do you use? From my experience, apistos like to spawn on surface that are clean. So they do not spawn on substrate or even woods unless they cannot find any better spawning site.

Some places where my apistos have spawn includes on the silicon rubber that binds the tank, on granite rocks, on clay pots which is their favourite spawning site. Once on the flat side of the wood because there wasen't any pots for her to spawn.
