    Hi hope someone can help
Have just set up my first tank and want to diffuse CO2. The current setup is Pressurised CO2 tank - selenoid-tubing- bubble counter -tubing- diffuser (those glass ones with spiral in the middle). When i plugged in the solenoid, it became very very hot until the plastic casing of the solenoid started to melt!!! then power supply in my house tripped. Faster unplug. Think this solenoid is fried. So buy another one. The second solenoid gets hot, but not as hot as the first. Is this normal?

I realise there must be a lot of pressure so that CO2 will come out of the diffuser. Is this normal? The pressure required is so much that when i blow into the tube going into the diffuser, nothing comes out. Is this normal?

There might have also been back flow of water into the tank. Because i did not install that bit (dunno wat its called) that prevents back flow of water into the solenoid. What happens if there is water in the CO2 tank?

Hope someone can help in out.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes it is hot, but not until it melt.

Yes need hish pressure to push the CO2 out from diffusior, water pressure it is under the water.

You must install the check valve to prevent back flow. Once water enter CO2 tank, you need to service your CO2 tank. Also install 2 or 3 check valve, 1 is not enough.

You are right.. the solenoid is faulty.. However, if you will inspect the faulty solenoid, you will find that it is a 2 part combination.. that plastic part that has melted can be replaced.. NA will have the required stuff.. think that is about $20..

    cheers..

Can melt!!! Made in which country? China? Mine gots warm too but I customize a heat sink to relieve the temperature and extend the solenoid lifespan.

I think he forgot about the check valve and water back flow into the solenoid.

Aluminium heat sink, need to customize a bit to get a good fit and maximum heat removal, works well.

I think a heat sink is a great idea! Even now i still get nervous as the solenoid gets quite hot. Thinking abt it, securing the heat sink will be a problem...

Heat sink? Is it really that hot? I don't really remember my solenoid being that hot - well I never touch it. Ok, maybe I go back and touch it and see.

Something is not right here. Its shouldn't get that hot in the first place. It is Better to get a replacement. Adding a heatsink to it is not really a solution.

Actualy, it should get hot although it should not hot enough until it melt. Solenoid is electromagnet, when the current go through the coil of wire and create magnetic field, it will get hot.

The German Taiwan China India brand all gets hot, eddy current build up causes this.
