    Question

    Hi,

I suggest you be more specific of which type of alage you want to tackle with. I doubt there is any type of medication that can "kill" all alage.

You can try bleach if you want. It kills alages and also whatever is in the tank too.

So please be specific or else I doubt anyone can answer your question.

    Cheers
    Nicholas

There a need to know what causes the algae out-break in your tank. Rather than just kill them, the algae will come back. Also use yamoto shrimp, otos etc help eat algae.

    Venson,

If you are looking for a liquid algacide for use in the Aquarium, there are actually plenty of options for various brands. Most of them are general purpose and when use in correct concentration, even BBA will die.

However.... something has got to give right? If it's too good to be true, it usually is. Most aquarium algacide contains Simazine, which is toxic to your plants and more importantly, your fishes. That's why it's so effective in killing algae in the aquarium. Some also contains excessive levels of copper, which will definitely send your invertebrates into the next world promptly.

If you are interested to find out more, just type 'aquarium algacide' into Google. Don't forget to search for "Simazine" too. It will be an interesting read.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

if you REALLY want to use a liquid algacide
can try using ones from Azoo
they have quite a few each supposedly for dealing with different algae types

from CAU's setup articles for their scapes, one of them did mention using abit of Azoo's algacide to deal with some initial algae problems

I am NOT suggesting you should use it
but just posing some choices if you want to do so

I've yet to see a bottle of algaecide work its wonders yet preserving your lifestock as well as your plants.

But like what Benny/Wackytpt mentioned, you'll need to sourced its root cause, it can be due to many factors, such as poor water circulation, lack of CO2, too much lighting, too little fertilization. Such as what I've stated, fuzz (BBA) is probably due to poor CO2 distribution, brown algae possibly due to your tank being a new setup and with a bit too much iron and green spot algae likely due to the lack of PO4 in your water column.

Still there can be further reasons to your outbreak. Maybe a more detailed description would be better, such as your tanks' specification, age of set-up and the likes.

    H2O2 FTW.
But ultimately you need to make sure the cause of algae in the first place is addressed.
    I'm back!
