My diy co2 system is starting to have quite a substantial amount of cottony things clinging on my airstone, some have floated away and clung onto quite a few leaves of my plants...its very unsightly and i am worried if this will hinder photosynthesis on the plants. Is there anyway i can remove it from the leaves and all without using my hands cos they seem to just break up into smaller pieces and float away. [] and how do i keep this from happening again? will malayan shrimps eat up this cottony thingy?

    Next problem[:0]

today i just got 100 malayan shrimp and placed them in my tank this afternoon, now it seems like the eggs in the shrimps have hatched and there are HUNDREDS of baby shrimp in my tank...what should i do? should i just leave them or should i change water? i just changed water today....my tank is new and therefore has no fish in it to eat the babies...

Thanx for any and all help u guys can give...[]

The cottony thingy is due to the DIY co2. Prolly some of the solution got into the tubing. You can siphon it out. Dun think it will harm your plants too much.

As for the shrimps, I would juz let them be. Dun think they will survive. If the do, it will be food later when you put in the fish.
    Cheers!!

I suspect you do not use a 2nd bottle of water to act as a pre-filter before pumping the CO2 into the water. The 2nd bottle of water will help clean the gas of other stuff before entering the tank. Refer to this drawing: http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/co2-faiz.html
I am not exactly sure what is the cottony thing, could be some kind of fungus? But it seem to be harmless.

thanx for the website...i just made a bottle of water thingy to collect the impurities and am going to change the water later on...

i also made my own reactor last time but am not sure if this is the correct way.i have a cylindrical plastic container with a small hole drilled to the top and a ball pump pin pushed thru tt hole.since the ball pump pin is a one way thing,CO2 will collect in the cylinder, and when the pressure is built up,the pin will release the co2 in smaller bubbles than just having a closed ended cylinder.however, when the pressure is not enuff to push the air thru the pin,the release stops and there is a small resevoir of co2 still in the cylinder.i do this because when the co2 resevoir builds up too much, the bubble it relases is a very unsightly huge blob of a bubble....do u guys think this method works or the ball pump pin thing is just a bad idea.

thanx so much for all the help guys...really appreciate it...

btw,is changing the water again simply because of the cloudiness the co2 cottony thing made a bad idea? should i wait for it to try and clear or just change the water?...the tank is about 8 days old and has no fishes and about 90++ malayan shrimp...(some died last night, god rest their souls
[]) the tank is a 2 ft tank with a rena iv2 internal filter...the sides of the tank is also littered with the cottony thing clining onto the sides of the tank.

Your ball pin idea is ingenious. Let me share mine (actually learnt from a friend) as well. See the diagram. The idea is based on the inbalance in pressure of the chamber and the side tubing. These ideas should be good in removing the gases like N2 and O2 present before the fermentation proccess.

BTW - you can scrape and siphon off the cottony stuff from your tank if it bothers you. Otherwise you cannot check if the 2nd water bottle added helps in removing the "impurities".
    Cheers!

actually u can use an air-line tubing to siphon out the stuff... better than hose cuz then the strong sucking force might damage your leaves...[]
