Where did you buy them from? the shop owner should be able to tell you what species are they....
It looks like my recent purchase: betta cocina....
my 2 cents
I bought a few of these beautiful little fish this morning, thinking it was little Parosphromenus. Now that i am home and have left them to settle in their tank, read through my books, i am not sure whether it is maybe a species of Betta.
The pictures are pretty bad, and they look like different fish on every single shot, but i hope someone can help me identifying these..
Now that they have started to settle, some have become a very dark brown, nearly black, whilst others remain fairly light, but all of them have very clear stripes as you can start to see on two of the pictures.
Can anyone help me identifying these? And if yes, has anyone kept them before and can tell me a bit more about them?
Cheers

I got them from Aqua Star Trading in Yishun, but they were in a tank mixed with lots of other small fish and they didnt know what these particular fish are called

They are bettas. Almost thought that they were paros too when I saw them at C328 because of their lateral stripes. I'm not sure what species though.
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
Have looked around a bit more. To me it looks closer to the
Betta livida. http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec...y.php?id=27252
If anyone has other suggestions go for it! I will try and take some more pictures to see if i can get closer to identifying them.
How do you guys feed them? Are live foods absolutely necessary for this group of small bettas? Can you get them used to dry food?

I think they might be B. coccina, because of the black tips on their pelvic fins in your pictures. Or am I seeing wrongly?

These are Betta coccina.
Can try frozen bloodworm or brine shrimp.
...and cover the tank well.. they will jump through the smallest gap. But other than that, they are quite hardy and once acclimatised, the colours become very rich (and show why they are called wine bettas).
fantastic! thanks for the replies everyone. I'm getting really excited about these little jewels now! Will post some pictures when i get around it.
I currently have 4 chocolate gouramis in the same tank with the wine bettas. The tank is 60x30x30. Is that going to be a problem in the long run or should they be happy tankmates?

not a problem. they are found in the same habitat and localities. Possible suitable add ons would be harlequin rasboras or Boraras species.
great. thanks everyone![]()

put black water for them and they will love it and colour up...

Hi all
New at this.. can bettas coexist with Apistogrammas?
I am into Plecos now...

I think better not. I used to have one of those common croaking gouramy (Trichopsis vittata) with a pair of Apistogramma cacatuoides and it harassed them constantly.
i would say that that is definitely not a paros. but it maybe a coccina or somewhere along that line
